Soul of Mexico is not a good representation of Mexico's soul.
We visited today to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, just for the sake of getting out on a Monday.
We arrived at around 4:15 PM and it wasn't that busy, though the service we got was as though they were jam-packed with customers that had more needs than us.
First, they messed up the drink order. When we asked for a correction, it was just downhill from there.
Chicken nachos are a pretty standard staple menu item, though that's not what we received. When we asked for that correction, we got what's shown in the picture.
We would have ordered more food and drinks, but they never checked on us again. They were too busy catering to the table that wasn't even there yet, which would be a party of 6. They were good at greeting and fraternizing with regulars from the Country Club, but that was the extent.
We were scoping the place to be able to have regular meetings with our organization. We are glad that we received the treatment before bringing more people.
Good they can get it together. Otherwise, it was a $65 lesson for two -- with no follow-up deinks or thank...

Companion had the carnitas plate and found the meat just as charred and over spiced so it wasn't the one dish. The tortillas were horrible. Old and flour tasting. Just bad.
We are both 1st generation Latinos and this wasn't authentic to us at all. This tasted like it was made for Midwestern Caucasians who have little to no knowledge of real Mexican food. To add insult to injury the add a lament card insert into the bill asking for cash because they don't want to pay for bank fees! Almost threatening to charge fees. It's California, and that's against the law. Jjjeeezz! The setting is what customers might think is authentic, but far from it.
One highlight - The beans were delicious, but who gos to a restaurant for beans?! We would recommend Taco Bell over Soul of Mexico everyday and on...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFood was excellent, initially service was good but when the bill came there was an unexpected surprise: the server had suggested getting a jug of margarita instead of the 5 margaritas originally ordered but he neglected to mention that the jug would cost TWICE AS MUCH as 5 individuals. One jug filled 4+1/2 single glasses and was billed at $44.95 USD bringing our total bill to 90 for the margaritas alone! To add insult to injury they refused to accept our 15% off coupon because it hadn't been printed out for them. Owner begrudgingly discounted some of the margarita but was rude and obstinate. Nothing ruins a good dining experience like surprise extra expenses and the lack of empathy shown by staff (including owner) really turned me off. Its never fun to give a bad rating to a place where the cooks obviously care about the product but the service and price gouging I experienced was...
