I pass by this place quite often. The smell of spices and good cooking finally lured me in to give it a try. Being raised within the inner city limits, I have an inner city look. Which usually gets me side eyed outside of city limits. Nevertheless, I felt the negative energy radiating from the woman who took my order while multitasking on the phone. Which I just assumed came from the way I looked. There were a couple of murmurs which seemed to be directed towards/ about me. But since I couldn't hear exactly what was being said, I dismissed it. Even when I completed my order she said the price in a way that made me feel as if she didn't think I could afford it, or was expecting me to complain about it. I shrugged it off. I'm used to this treatment. Usually in a different environment. Like Beverly hills, Santa Monica, or Marina somewhere. Not in Inglewood.
The confirmation came when others walked in, she spoke loudly, clearly with a pleasant attitude and greeted them. Of course she was off the phone by this time, so I took it as that. Until the orders started coming out. 1 by 1 she handed people their orders with a smile. Thanked them for coming. And moved right along. When my order was ready. She called my name, sat my bag down before I could get to the counter and in a rushing manner said thank you have a good day. And turned away. Now, I have very tough skin. There's no way I'm going to take it personal. I gathered my meal, and left quietly... while thinking out loud "You hate me don't you?"
My complaint is more about the item that was spoiled. I just wanted to first paint a detailed picture of the energy that was already in the air. Upon returning to bring back the coleslaw which was clearly spoiled. It smelled rancid. And you could see the coagulation from the mayonnaise on the top. Not only was I not given an option to pick another one or replace it for something else. She proceeded to insult my intelligence by stating "that's just the way it smells." Due to the fact it's "made with cabbage". And that's how cabbage smells. I looked at her like really. Knowing that I'm not going to argue, I just put on my best shit eating grin. Said oh okay. Thank you, have a good day. Threw it in the trash right there and walked away.
Here's the kicker...in hindsight I noticed a small puddle of water next to the fridge from where the coleslaw came from. Indicating the refrigerant was leaking, or the fridge had stopped working at some point very recently. Causing the slaw to spoil. Which I'm sure she was aware of, because there was a yellow caution sign next to the puddle on the floor.
Sucks, because I've seen a few foodies recommend this place. And I get it, no one's perfect. Some businesses have good days and bad days too. Equipment fails sometimes. I get it. Two old sayings come to mind, 1) Judge not, and though shall not be judged. 2). The customer is...
Read moreThis is the Orleans and York in Inglewood. The food is the same as the one on Slauson Ave. They are always consistent, the poor boys, all of their Seafood is always very fresh I have tried all of their Po Boys however I am a big fan of their pastrami as well. We have also purchased the catfish platter, oyster platter, shrimp platter and red snapper platters, they come with tons and tons and tons of their delicious fresh french fries, with their own seasoning on them. Reminds me of a little bit of New Orleans Louisiana as well as New York. Their name does fit them a little of New Orleans and a little of New York. The staff is very friendly at this one in Inglewood and while you're waiting in line sometimes they pass out small bites, which helps make the wait less stressful. You may also watch the flat screens and see the reviews that are coming from Yelp as you wait in line. There are many beverages in the cooler, chilled desserts as well. Pickles and bakery Fresh Bakery made desserts on the counter as well. They accept all major credit cards, they have their own parking lot better than the one on Slauson and they are easily seen from the Main Street. I highly recommend...
Read moreI'm done with this place! In addition to being overpriced (over $62 for two platters, 2 foot longs and a small pecan pie), this is the 2nd time they've gotten our order wrong - despite the fact that, this time, the order was read back to me correctly...TWICE. This time they added cheese to my sandwich when I specifically said just meat and bread, and they failed to include the 2 cole slaws that go with the platters as well. But we got plenty of overcooked fries and overcooked (bordering on blackened) oysters and shrimp. And when I called to complain I was told I could come back and pick up the cole slaw and that they would make me another sandwich. Sure...I have PLENTY of free time to get in my car and waste additional money for gas in order to make right the overpriced order I SHOULD have gotten in the first place. They offered the same solution to my husband the last time we ordered and they got the order wrong. In my opinion, what they SHOULD have done was either credit our account for those items (since we always pay by credit card) or absorbed the cost to deliver the corrected items to us. Instead, they have lost a customer. But hey...at those prices, they can...
