On Tuesday, February 4th, 2020 I went in to the downtown NODO location around 1:00 pm and I ordered the number 2 which is the chorizo Breakfast burrito...while waiting nearly 30 min for my food I observed the cooks. What I saw made me nauseous. There were 3 cooks on the line, the 1st one had beard and for 90% of the time I was there he was handling food without gloves on. I saw him cough into his hands and not wash them he also would touch his face and beard and not wash his hands. The 2nd cook who I saw answer phone calls with no gloves on then go make food with no gloves on and did not wash his hands either. he put gloves on at one point and went from making food to handling the cash register and debit cards back to making food with the same gloves on
The whole time I was there I was trying to convince myself to just eat what I get, what I am seeing that it is not that bad, it will test my immune system, but the more i saw i couldn't stomach the thought of eating what I ordered. so I went up to get my money back and that is when I noticed the 3rd cook who was out of my view when I was sitting down...only god knows what he could of...

I've been enjoying this establishment since I moved here (2015) and it's excellent. Every. Single. Time.
Ham and Mango is a fan favorite. I literally crave this sandwich. It's buttery, chewy, perfectly crisp on the edges sourdough bread with juicy, sweet and salty ham, mango, and gooey cheese. Do I have photo evidence? Probably not because I can't wait that long to dive in.
My husband enjoys the burger, and the bacon. My parents love the C&P. During the 2020/2021 closures, this was regular lunch takeout and I tried almost everything on the menu. It's all very good but the ham and mango will always be my default.
We always order one regular and one sweet potato fry. The aioli is perfection. The cookies are huge and sweet. Big enough to split but no obligation to do so ;)
I don't have anything negative to say about this place. The building is a bit eclectic, but that's part of the charm. The downtown location does have the trouble of parking....
Read moreWe came to Iowa City and wanted a small restaurant for a quick lunch. We Googled small sandwich shops, Iowa City. Nodo came up first with more than 4 stars. We got there and it looks like a nice little place. The sandwiches are $8-10 each and that doesn't include any sides or drink. We got the salmon sandwich and the pulled pork sandwich with 2 kids grilled cheeses.
We ordered our food. There was about 6 employees in there, no masks despite CDC recommendations. They were slowly meandering around , no urgency at all. Standing around and joking about random things like their clothes etc. They filled the ice in their pop machine with a dirty bucket.
The kids grilled cheeses were literally just bread and a slice of cheese. For $5. The salmon sandwich had nasty eggs in it that didn't taste right. The only sandwich that was decent was the pulled pork one, and about an hour and a half after eating it my stomach hurts really bad.
We personally do not recommend this place and...
