Top Taste Jamaican Restaurant — Restaurant in Irvington

My family and I recently visited this restaurant while visiting relatives in the area. My cousin actually highly recommended them, so I already had a positive perception since she knows good Jamaican food. As a vegan, it's tough eating out and finding places that can accommodate your preferences, so I initially went in desiring to get a veggie patty, but they didn't have any, so I decided to order callaloo and dumplings. The associate who assisted me was friendly and patient. She even asked if I ate fish to ensure she didn't place any in the callaloo, and I truly appreciated that!

My final order was callaloo with yam and fried dumplings, and my mother ordered a red snapper dinner with rice and peas. We had to wait about 15 minutes for them to prepare the food since they had to cook the fish. Once I received my order, I was immediately surprised at how awesome the taste was. The callaloo wasn't salty but still had a nice savory flavor. The fried dumplings were also rich in taste. I absolutely loved my meal and was so delighted that I was able to experience AUTHENTIC Jamaican food. I couldn't believe it because it's truly so difficult to obtain Jamaican dishes that aren't Americanized and lacking flavor. Eating this food made my out-of-town experience so much better, and of course, I was able to satisfy my cravings with a nice healthy, flavorful meal! I highly recommend and will definitely eat here again...

While I understand that restaurants can get busy, my experience at Top Taste was incredibly frustrating. I placed my order online, allowing for a 20-minute lead time before I arrived at the store. Upon my arrival, I found only a few customers inside. However, I waited for about 10 minutes before being able to notify someone that I was there to pick up my order. After being informed that my order would be ready in approximately 8 minutes, I left and returned, only to find that my order was still not prepared.

After waiting for a full hour since placing my order, I inquired again, only to discover that it was still not ready. This was particularly frustrating as most of the food is usually pre-cooked. While I empathize with the servers who appeared overwhelmed, I believe there should be better communication with customers regarding wait times.

Ordering ahead is meant to be a convenient and quick option, yet I watched as several customers who arrived after me were served before me. It's essential for restaurants to value their customers' time and provide accurate information on wait times. Top Taste needs to improve its communication, organization, and show more empathy towards customers' frustrations. My hope is that my feedback helps them enhance their service...

They took a long time to delivery through seamless. I ordered jerk chicken..it was pretty good but was not JERK at all...idk what flavor maybe more like stewed CHIX never had jerk like that.. would prefer the pit in orange nj for jerked meat.The rice was really good not mushy..had good flavor. I believe I ordered a small not sure but the portion of the sides could have been better.The curry goat roti was really good though..gave alot of meat..just wish it had potatoes inside. Would get roti again but I would not get anything in jerk flavor from here at all. Asked for oxtail sauce on rice, they did not follow this preference, which dissapointed me because I always order my jerk meals like this from any restaurant. The roti was good but for the delivery wait, I would just go somewhere else. And the delivery driver made me walk outside my gate to get my food..it was cold..and I did prepay my tip..so that also was a let down that he did even try to meet me half way...
