The staff here are wonderful, but so overworked! Short staffing results in frequent drive-through only situations. The hiring sign says $13/hour including tips.
I suggest management raise that to a minimum of $15/hour PLUS tips. Including current employees!
It’s a solid restaurant, but low pay is likely costing money in the long run. Going to Sonic is to have the experience. A drive through is fine, but the process is time consuming. Even ordering ahead online, including a tip, results in a drive through line wait.
To the crew at this Sonic: you’re wonderful. To the management/franchisee: pay better. It’s 2022.
EDIT:
Okay, I'm editing this review, from 4 stars to 1. I wrote this a few months ago, and yet nothing has changed with this store. Their hours are limited, their DRIVE IN has been closed for months. It's just a drive thru now.
Sonic is a Drive In restaurant. The drive thru is an extra convenience.
This store is located right in the middle of Jackson Township. Sure, it has competition from Swenson's, who has better burgers, but the selection at Sonic is much bigger.
The management/franchisee of this store needs to be seriously looked at by Corporate. How is this restaurant, not functioning as it should, making the Sonic brand look?
I know a lot of it comes down to staffing. In my initial review, I noted that they are hiring at $13/hour including tips. Now, those same signs have a piece of black tape over the "including tips" part.
WHY. SO. LOW? Pay your crew better! You'll have better retention, more applicants... and MORE MONEY.
The median rent in Stark is $800/month for a 2 bedroom. An employee making $13/hour for about 32 hours a week has a gross take home of $1664/month. Take out taxes, and that's closer to $1300. Take out rent, that's $500. $500 for the rest of the bills. Food, utilities, transportation, insurance.
DO BETTER. Pay better. The success of employees is directly related to the success of a company.
Food service is exhausting work. Things are expensive. Your crew are likely barely making ends meet, if at all.
Pay them better, and I know that your store will gain success. If that's too hard, then let someone...
Read moreI moved to Ohio from Nebraska and was bummed about losing one of my favorite fast food places, but I was told there was a Sonic in Massillon. Super - I'll give it a try.
My partner and I pulled into one of the stalls and took about 10 minutes to work out what we were going to order. We pressed the button and waited another 2-3 minutes to hear "I'll be right with you," then "are you trying to order?"
Well, yes, I am. Hence the red button. I was told they were severely understaffed and they asked me to order through the drive thru, which had backed up while we were in the stall. I was a little annoyed, but sure, who doesn't understand staffing issues these days?
So, we pulled into the drive thru. It took us another 15 minutes to get up to the speaker, where we were placed on a hold for 5 more minutes. When we finally ordered, I had to repeat myself several times just to be told "I'm sorry, I was showing my coworker something - can you start over?"
A garlic butter bacon burger, add pickles. A large groovy fry. A large lemonade cream cooler. A Sonic smasher. A large tot. A route 44 Dr. Pepper, add sweet cream. A small strawberry shake.
We got our order, which consisted of the garlic burger with a medium lemonade cooler and groovy fry, the Sonic smasher with medium tots and strawberry shake, plus a route 44 Dr. Pepper, add vanilla.
I've never been the confrontational type, so we just ate what we got. Most of it was cooked fine, but the groovy fries were practically burnt. There were other fried foods mixed with our sides that we didn't order. It was a little concerning.
I don't blame the staff. I get that things are tough in food service, especially with the staffing shortage. The owner should take responsibility - I keep seeing replies to reviews simply asking people to call a hotline to repeat their complaints. NOT HELPFUL. If your establishment can't run on the staff you have, either shut it down or haul yourself in there to work out the kinks yourself. Shameful. We...
Read moreOther than the very thin spots we had horrible food. We love Sonic, and drove almost an hour to get some yesterday. We waited a while because of long lines, which is not a big deal. So, as soon as we got our food we left. I wish I would have waited.
The three cherry limeades we got had no or nearly no flavor. There was no carbonation, no lime flavor even though there were likes in there. I think that they were no squeezed. The drink was pink with almost no cherry flavor.
The fries were pretty nasty. It was like they were microwaved or something because they were so soggy. They had no salt and we were given no salt packets, but we also did not ask for any because did not know we need any. We were not offered condiments like we had in the past and had to ask. Person pulled ketchup out of his pocket. Was worried about using it.
The chilli cheese coney was coldish I was told and so nasty my son could not eat it. The chilli cheese tots l, which we ordered a medium only had ten tots. And it did not use the shredded cheese cheese but looked like ripped up american cheese which made the tots taste pretty bad.
The burgers were nasty, in fact I was up sick all night long. We ordered two number ones, and I am the only one that ate it because I was that hungry. The burger was devoid of the tummy not sure how to describe but salty greasy flavor that we had come to love. The patty was off the bun, the ingridents were more in the burger bar than in the burger. It was horribly put together.
Like I said, we loved Sonic Drive-in so much we drove an hour one way to get some. I do not think we would do...
