GREAT FOOD BUT POOR PRIVATE PARTY EXPERIENCE. My original communication with the restaurant occurred on 12/13 for a hospital unit Christmas party the following week. While I realized it was last minute, the communication from service manager Brandy was that the time was available. I asked to book it, and no further communication was offered. I called the store and spoke with another manager, Anna, about party orders. After voting on group favorites, I submitted our final order request on 12/17. I also called that day to double check that orders could be separate but was told no, only after I had been told yes previously. I requested confirmation on 12/18 from Brandy and never heard back. On the day of the party, I called the store and spoke with Anna again. She called Brandy and called me back to confirm that yes, we could do separate tickets. I thanked her, updated her on our 30+ party, and she assured me I could call back with any further questions. On arriving at 7:10, the room we had booked was occupied. We were not able to be seated until 20 minutes later, and at that point, a salad was sitting on the counter. Pasta and fried ravioli were delivered, but no plates available. I also noticed the pasta wasn’t what we ordered. Lanai, our waitress, told me that cannoli, our request, was not available and that she thought Brandy had notified me. I spoke with Dixie, the present manager, who updated me that our head cost would be $21 per person vs the original $25 that was discussed because of the mix up. As the night went on, drinks ordered were extremely late getting to the table, and as people started to leave, it became mass chaos because management had not notified the waitress that we would be paying separately. What a nightmare. This ended up putting us there an hour past closing, when the group was full of physicians and nurses who had to be at work before dawn the next morning. A young, white waiter and middle-aged Asian bus boy were extremely rude during this time, while Dixie and Lanai did what they could to help. Despite all of the hiccups, we were charged the 20% service fee and multiple people paid for drinks they never asked for. In the end, I discussed with Dixie and the FOH that this ultimately was a huge communication breakdown between upper management and them, and that I hated they received the brunt of it and that Lanai didn’t receive the tip she deserved. I have never been more frustrated with a local restaurant. I would maybe expect this for a walk-in group of 15, but never a week’s planned group of 30 with a standard menu. What a cluster. I’m not looking for a refund, or gift cards, or an apology, only revealing my experience for your business to learn from and for future customers to be wary of. I was so excited to visit this new location, support a local business and my fellow Jacksonians, but bless, the piss poor communication through every stage...
Read moreUpdate: the manager that I talked to did make right on her word. I just received my gift card a few days ago. And, am so glad. It shows me that even when they make an error, they will fix it and correct it. Happy that Sal & Mookies back being 1 of my fav go-to Restaurant again 🤗
First and foremost; Sal & mookies is a great restaurant. I've been coming here for years and haven't ever had a complaint.. Until recently. Lately, things have been going downhill at this restaurant. Last month I ordered pasta and pizza to-go for an important occasion. I ordered the chicken cacciatore, cannelloni and large south street seaport pizza. While the pasta was pretty tasty; however, the portion size for pasta was ridiculously small. And, the pizza was awful. Honestly, worst pizza I ever had in my life. I say this because the pizza was entirely inedible. Crust and cheese were burnt. Crust was hard as a rock. You couldn't cut it with a knife. And seafood items on the pizza supposed to be cooked delicately were drawn up & overcooked. I literally hurt my mouth and almost choked on their pizza. Another downside to that pizza was there was not enough toppings on my pizza to taste. So, my order was a waste of money. To make things worst this was the most expensive item on the menu. I talked to a manager the next day. She told me she would fix the situation by sending me a gift card by mail. One week later, no gift card. I emailed the store, she apologized and said she would put it in the mail again. Uh, few days later.. Still no gift card! This is very unprofessional and I'm almost disgusted with everything.By the way, the man that took my to-go order was rude. Didn't want to help at all. I called and told him I wanted to place a to-go order and he didn't say anything but placed me on hold for about 10 minutes. I had to hang up and call again. Then, got the prices messed up. He called me back to tell me that I couldn't order the lunch menu pastas. When, I ordered them way before the lunch hour closed. He had to get a manager to talk to me just to confirm. I loved Sal & Mookies. They were amongst my favorite restaurants. Now, i don't know if I can go back which is sad; because they were so upscale.

Read moreI usually go there for lunch and never had any issues, the food is always delicious but we were celebrating my son and niece bday and we had a small party of 10 people, 4 tickets, so we went during the evening. At the end of our evening my waitress Dee brought out the right ticket and then when she brought me back my ticket that she swiped my card for, there were 2 additional meals that had been added. I explained to her that it wasn’t the ticket that she initially presented and that it was incorrect. She said that she would correct it but it took her about 25 minutes to correct the problem she asked the manager to come help and he proceeded to take his time. This is where things went left. I showed them how my online banking statement still reflected the wrong amount. The manager for the night of 2/13/24 was absolutely TERRIBLE! He had the worst attitude and was extremely rude and told me that my bank statement would show the correct amount in 3 days. I took my children home bc it was late but my family was still there. My sister said he proceeded to come outside and complain to the other staff on how nobody can tell him how to do his job and my sister told him he was being rude and the coworker told him to stop talking and he stormed off yelling “UGH!” On top of being rude and unpleasant to me he was then rude to my family. His leadership is horrible when leadership is horrible it trickles down to other employees. I’ve never experienced bad customer service there until last night. When you are in the business of customer service you should proceed with caution with what you say and how you say it. That manager was absolutely disgusting and unprofessional to even walk off and continue to discuss the situation with...
