This place needs to be shut down! My wife is a former employee here and she would tell me how infested this restaurant was with cockroaches all the time. Ownership would tell her to kill the roaches and still use the containers, silverware, and ingredients that had been touched by the bugs. After plenty of complaints the owner finally agreed to have it fumigated. No containers or dishes were put away and were all covered with Chemicals the next morning and we were still told we had to use them to save money. Not to mention the owner still had my wife come in that morning less then 12 hours after the chemicals were sprayed to open the business that day and when she came in to cockroaches crawling and dead everywhere she had to leave the building and tell the owner that if she opened the business that day before fixing the problem she would have to quit. Needless to say she was slowly removed from the schedule to the point that she is not scheduled anymore. We have videos of cockroaches crawling all over windows and tables. Below I have attached a couple pictures of the cockroaches. While the cockroaches were predominately in the kitchen, customers would come across them quite often. This was my wife’s personal experience and can not speak for the rest of the employees. For the health of my family I know we will not be setting foot near this business again.
Attached are pictures of the roaches and containers that were left out after fumigation. We are unable to attach videos to a google review but we...

1928 Cuban Bistro is a hidden gem in Jacksonville, offering an authentic taste of Cuba that instantly makes you feel at home. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with a cozy vibe that truly captures the essence of Cuban culture. Whether you're familiar with Cuban food or trying it for the first time, this place delivers an experience that feels both authentic and inviting.
Ordering was a breeze—everyone speaks both Spanish and English, making it easy for anyone to feel comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful, adding to the overall enjoyable experience. But let’s talk about the real highlight: the food.
Their sandwiches are out of this world—perfectly pressed, packed with flavor, and made with high-quality ingredients. If you're a fan of Cuban sandwiches, this spot is a must-visit. And then there are the churros and buñuelos—simply to die for. The buñuelo dough was spot on, light and crispy with just the right texture. The almíbar (syrup) was a little light on flavor, but the classic estrella de anís touch made it feel truly authentic.
Overall, 1928 Cuban Bistro is a place I’d return to without hesitation. Whether you're stopping in for breakfast, lunch, or just a sweet treat, you're in for a taste of Cuba right here in Jacksonville....
Read moreThe detail that goes into this restaurant before even biting into your meal - Wow! The design of this Cuban restaurant is so pretty. Look at all of that vibrant color and print! I love that this restaurant is so welcoming. I would hands down come here any day with my laptop, grab a fresh baked bakery item and a coffee, and post up at one of their tables inside to work. I love all of the natural light from the big, open windows.
You are immediately welcomed with warm, friendly smiles upon entering. I’m a little embarrassed that before last week, I had never been to any of the locations before. Of course not by choice; I have always wanted to visit. I’m so happy I finally had the opportunity & time to stop in, and try a few things!
Oh my gosh the baked goods, I made a mess pulling these apart to truly see each and every scrumptious layer. Ate every bit of those guava and cheese filled pastries! Will be back for more!
