So sad to see this restaurant decline so much! We were regular patrons for almost 20 years, going back to when Country Cabin was down the road near Wilson. It was a place where we could be sure to get good food at a cheap price…Until yesterday. We moved from the area 2 years ago, so when we came back to the Westside to visit, we decided to have dinner here. A 10 oz NY strip was listed on the specials board, so that’s what we chose. It took about half an hour or more to get our order because I guess the kitchen forgot? We heard our waitress tell the cook we were still waiting for our food, and then she told us, “I’m sorry, guys. He’s working on it now!” The food was bland. The steaks were mostly fat. Not the good marbled fat you get in a decent cut of steak, either, but just a tiny bit of tough gray meat in the middle of a giant circle of fat all around the edges. We must have trimmed off at least 4-5 ounces of fat from each of our steaks, and got a workout in the process from all the sawing! I was a bit concerned that the steaks were the same dull color throughout, but we weren’t expecting a premium cut from a country restaurant, either. My hubs’ friend squash and fried pickled were done perfectly, but my carrots and cabbage were bland and overcooked. The biscuits tasted like they came from a bag you get out of the frozen foods section in a grocery store. Basic iced tea was $3.60 each, making our bill for two people a whopping $50 before tip! For that, we could have gone to Longhorn and had steaks done right. Instead, nostalgia brought us here for fatty gray meat with a side of disappointment. Giving 3 stars instead of 1 for the sake of all those past visits when we got good food cheap, but sadly, it’s the end of an era for us. We won’t be back.

We visited this restaurant in the past and it was one of our favorite spots to eat. After the meal that we had on Thanksgiving Day we will no longer be patrons. I ordered a strip steak medium rare with mashed potatoes and gravy and fried squash on the side. The steak that came out was not medium rare it was not even pink. I was unable to cut it with my knife and my guest attempted to assist me. I looked at the knife and realized that it was bent so I asked the server for a new one. I was still unable to cut that tough steak! The potatoes and gravy were cold the biscuit was small and hard as a rock. My companion had a fried chicken and stuffing. The chicken was fried and it was at least warm but it was hard and it was dry. The stuffing was like nothing she had ever eaten before, green beans were cold and the cornbread was hard. I call the server and ask to speak with the manager. She asked what the problem was and I showed her my steak. She took my plate to the back and showed it to someone in the kitchen and came back to tell me that they would not charge me for the steak. That made me feel better until I saw my bill. They may have taken off the price of the steak but they still charge me $4.99 for cold mashed potatoes and gravy and $4.99 for fried squash. So my total bill was $27 and change even with the steak removed. I am so very disappointed in this place and I doubt I'll ever go back! I previous reviews had been fives now they're lucky if they get a two from us.

We stopped here on THANKSGIVING day on the way to Daytona Beach for the turkey run. There were 10 of us and they were able to accommodate us to sit all togther. The waitress was friendly and was able to answer all the questions. She got all of our orders right and the food came out prompt and hot. They had a limited menu of course it being THANKSGIVING day but, still had alot of veggies and 5 meats. The sweet tea was good. I didn't get a pic of the ham and potatoes that was a SLAB o ham. It was as big as half of plate. Like 3/4 inch thick and pineapple glaze on it it was kinda chunky too. The sweet potato didn't have marshmallows on it only raisins but, thats ok it was still good. Biscuits were good not dry like some places. That turkey and dressing with giblet gravy...🤤 the dressing was smooth and was seasoned great you could tell that didn't come out no box and it was white meat turkey. Shepard pie was good intresting presentation. That banana pudding too! Oh.. my.. creamy not the box. 🤤The restaurant and bathrooms were clean. Definitely a good stop we reallly... enjoyed it. If we travel this way next year we'll stop in again.

My 88 yr old Uncle loves this place. I've stayed with him for a week now. We had lunch here Wednesday, the service was good and the food likewise. We stopped in this afternoon, we stood at the door for a bit. Both waitresses acknowledged that we were there however did not seat us. After a bit my Uncle sat at a table that was by the door. It was set up with fresh silverware. I sat down with him. One of the waitresses acknowledged that we had sat and said that it was okay. She and the other waitress went on with serving and chatting with customers. After sitting a bit longer one finally asked what we wanted to drink, as she left the table I asked her to bring us a menu, she said okay. Across the room the other waitress spouted "There's a sign up there that says Wait To Be Seated! We will seat you when we get to you!" I looked at my Uncle who was a bit upset by her statement. "He said we can go if you want." I told him no it's okay (We had seen the Need Help sign, knowing they were short handed), but about that time I heard her mumble something toward us, not saying it loud enough that we could hear well and then cut her eyes at us. At that moment I told my Uncle we weren't staying and that I refuse to pay anyone to treat us in such a manner! My Uncle is 88 years old and I know good and well that the waitress could see that he was elderly. Anyone with any respect for the elderly wouldn't have expected him to stand waiting for such a length of time, specially since there were only 5-6 tables with people sitting. Just because your waitress had a bad day didn't give an excuse for her behavior. There was no harm in us sitting until they could get to us. There were 2 waitresses for 5-6 tables. I'm pretty sure they shouldn't have been overwhelmed with that amount of customers and if they were maybe they need to find other employment!! Have more respect for your elderly!! An elderly veteran at that!! Giving 2 stars because the service was good...
