Well I've had some pretty major culinary disappointments lately, but I'm happy to report that today's efforts yielded a Shane-certified LEGIT AF award-winning, much-needed, grand-slam home-run new foodie destination - Gyro Bros, on St Augustine Rd just off of Phillips Hwy.
I've been seeing a lot of universally-gushing reviews for this place lately and decided today was the day I gave them a shot, and BOY am I glad I did!!! I made a bonehead mistake when I ordered the Gyro Platter, thinking that was the sammich with a side of rice and a salad, but what I actually got was basically a deconstructed gyro, the meat served over incredibly fragrant, perfectly-cooked rice (mixed I believe with rather really good olive oil or ghee perhaps) with a side "fattoush" salad (I think there were like 4 different choices of salads) which consisted of SCREAMING-fresh tomato, cucumber, onions, lettuce and herbs in a house-made vinaigrette which was refreshing and delicious.
The meat couldn't have been any more flawlessly cooked, sliced or seasoned, not too thick, not too thin, JUST right with the perfect amount of "bark" to it. The tzatziki sauce was somehow fresher-tasting and more well-seasoned than any I've ever had before, and their EXCELLENT creamy jalapeno hot sauce added the perfect kick to the dish, also tasting incredibly fresh, which was really the prevailing theme here, and a large part of the reason why this place stands out - FRESHNESS, and you simply cannot overstate what a huge difference this makes!
This was an outstanding meal, and I'll be back soon to try the proper sandwich, but all I can add at this point is that if you love a good gyro like I do, this is a MUST-try destination, the reviews and the hype are real, and this is just a superior product made by people who actually care about the quality of their food and are rightly...
Read moreAMAZINGGG. Received a flyer one day, figured I'd check it out. Well worth it. I got the gyro meal with fries and drink for $13.98. THE BOX WAS FULL. Delicious seasoning on fries and the gyro was packed with more than enough meat. I honestly should have taken a picture but by the time I thought about it, my pregnant self down half the meal. I don't usually write reviews but this place is definitely worth a try and I'll be a regular. Thank you for the friendly service and also bringing my food out while I waited, which you...
Read moreShut up!!! The food was so good I’m honestly going to be dreaming about it. Everything was incredibly fresh and perfectly seasoned. I usually can’t stand tomatoes, but the ones on my chicken shawarma were bursting with flavor — I ate every single one that fell out of my sandwich. The tzatziki was next level. The Falafel was amazing.
I grew up near the sponge docks in Tarpon Springs and have had more than my share of Greek and Mediterranean food, but this… this felt like a religious experience. Absolutely...
