I regret to say that I do not recommend La Perla Mexican Restaurant based on my recent experience. Initially, we tried to call and place an order, but it went to an inbox, leading us to drive to the restaurant instead. We placed a Togo order in person for two orders of birria tacos, which were quickly filled. However, I found the tacos to be disappointing as they lacked flavor and depth. The absence of cinnamon and clove, along with soggy red tortillas, left much to be desired. Additionally, there was no side of chopped onion and cilantro, but there were small portions of red and green hot sauce and a tiny dollop of guacamole. The consommé was also bland and lacked any discernible pepper or spice flavors. Overall, the food tasted very basic and lacked the exciting flavors I expected. While it's possible that it was just an off day, considering the abundance of dining options available, this one chance to impress fell short. Unfortunately, I have no desire to return to La Perla Mexican Restaurant. I had hoped for a better experience, but it did not live up to my...
Read moreI was showing someone out of town where to go for the best actual Mexican food and found out that I never reviewed this place. I've been to multiple areas of Mexico and in some very deep areas of Mexico like outside of La Piedad in Michoacán where tourists don't go. I've stayed in little towns with mi amigos familia. I have been to the local mercados and have had the most local meals prepared. When I go, it is during the time of Diá de la Guadalupe. The food at La Perla brings me right back to those home cooked meals in La Joya or the foodstalls in Quiringuicharo. Outside of Cali, this is the best authentic Mexican food I have eaten. It will be off-putting for regular white people that think chain Mexican restaurants are truly Mexican. Don't say no to any of the ingredients and embrace the true flavors that make Mexico a go to for chefs around the world. I will say though that I wish they would offer carne en su jugo during the winter, but that is a Guadalajara...
Read moreIf your looking to try the trendy Birra tacos I would definitely recommend you coming here. The tacos came 3 for $12 which is a little high but we're very fresh and hot. No sides come with it but you do get 2 hot sauces, guac, and sour cream. The staff there was nice. I personally like flour tortilla tacos as opposed to the corn street tacos but they were cool about removing the cilantro and adding the raw onion on the side. The consume was really light and after one dip I didn't use it anyway because the taco meat was so juicy and tender already and this is coming from a person who eats Chipotle salad dressing or enchilada sauce on everything. The meat is very rich almost like oxtail so after one I wish I had gotten a combo of birra, steak, and seafood taco. I would definitely come back to try their...
