I called Nacho Taco and spoke with a gentleman about a catering order on 9/13/18. I wanted 10 tacos (4 Asada, 3 chicken, 3 beef) and 10 tacos vegan (4 Soy Chorizo, Beef, Chicken), the way they came with everything except the meat on the side. I also threw in two 8oz salsas and guac with the order. The total was $75 (for some reason they were charging me a catering fee, even though I was picking the order up from the store) and I told the gentleman that was good enough and I would double check with everyone that the 20 tacos I got would be enough and would call him back on the 15th.
I called back actually on the 16th, later that evening. Spoke with the same gentleman who said they were about to close and preferred he call me back on Monday morning to finalize the order. No problem. By Monday around 5 I had not heard from anyone, so I called him. I advised that I needed to change some of the tacos, but was still getting 20 tacos total. This time I needed 6 Tacos (Asada, Beef) and 14 tacos Vegan. He rang it all up and said the total would be about $100. I asked him why it jumped from $75 to $100? He said because I added in Vegan tacos. I advised him that the total # stayed the same, but switched out the type of tacos. I then advised him that this was averaging $5 a taco, when on their online menu their most expensive taco shows $3.49
He then proceeded to tell me that was an error and that this was the total. I asked to speak with a manager and he said he was the manager, so I advised him that since he could not provide me with a logical reason as to why the order jumped $25, I would not be doing business there. He advised me okay and hung up.
I reached out to their IG account and sent a message with no response. It appears this business does not care, nor even understand the concept of catering and customer service.
**Since I cannot respond to the owner's reply, here is my reply: Unfortunately you have shortcomings with your employees and instead of admitting those and accepting responsibility and just apologizing for the miscommunication part from YOUR employee, you argue with a lost customer over IG. I only changed my order once, never added on all of the things that you said I did (Vegan Cheese, Vegan Sour cream), I also said I did not need catering utensils, and you added all of that stuff on as well. The prices I asked for were the prices that are on YOUR menu online. You tried adding more onto what I wanted and I told the gentleman and you on IG that I never wanted any of that stuff. So, I guess it is my fault for requesting the prices that you have listed on YOUR menu.
Your responses to me have shown me your true character and your lack of knowledge in the Customer Service field. I hope that you attend classes or seminars in the future to better learn how to handle situations going forward....
Read moreThe food came out overcooked/undercooked/cold at the same time which is honestly impressive. The meat was overdone but cold. The tortillas felt and tasted like they took them straight out of the bag without heating them up somehow. The limes were dry. The sauces lacked flavor/salt. The service was poor. We had 1 drink, 7 tacos, and 1 side of rice and beans which came out to about $40. Do with that information what you will.
Owner's response: "Diana, If we started with something nice to say to you in regards of this review it would be just to stay at home and cook for your self. It seems like nothing was ok for you and your group, you guys just go around trying to feel superior to people in the food industry by being arm chair warrior's? It's admirable on how you have Elvin's views by posting bad reviews back to back, just because a young high-school student asked you to move the table to it's original place."
Loll thank you for the response! I'm not sure what Elvin said but I'll take a looksies later. Look, I'm sure you have a great overall review because you're usually a great business but today was lacking. I never mentioned anything about a high schooler? I'm not sure where that came from? What that "student" had to say was valid because I would have the same concern about the tables. I only directly mentioned the food quality which you could've just taken on the chin and be better about it moving forward. And also my service comment was about how our food was basically tossed onto our table before they ran back inside (which I forgot to mention so thank you for reminding me). My review still stands after seeing your response. I hope you have better days ahead, I have a feeling today was a bad one. Love always 💕
Hey it's me again. Just came back from Elvin's review. I'm sure if he knew the guy's name then he'd say it instead of using other descriptors such as "black dude" or "cashier girl". Not sure if that was what you were referencing when you said it's "borderline racist"?? Also, it's true, he is from the middle east and the hospitality there is on another level. That comment would've deemed at least a flipped table and curse to the person's mother. As a business owner you are supposed to take these google reviews as constructive criticism and not a direct attack. We only commented on our experience with the food, service, and atmosphere which were all valid. We never made baseless remarks. Anyone at any given moment can come and have the same experience. Side note: are you also the owner of Silkies? If not, you guys would make...
Read moreIf you are living in Jacksonville, you will soon discover that good Mexican food was, until recently, non-existant. There are a few places that are not dreadful but they are a far cry from real authentic Mexican cuisine. I'm not sure how long Nacho Taco has been hiding on Stockton in the Riverside area but I drive by that location 6 days a week and didn't discover it until about 2 weeks ago so I'm guessing it is a fairly young business. Suffice it to say, it didn't take much to convince myself to take a gander with some coworkers and give her a shot.
The building is bright and gawdy just like good, cheap Mexican food should be. This place is clearly set up for take-out and delivery rather than eat-in dining since there is a total of 2 picnic benches on the side of the restaurant and a total of 0 located inside. It's kind of a shame because this area is hopping at lunchtime and I'm sure many people would like to take a seat and enjoy. The owner assured me that he was remedying this situation soon for people like myself.
The menu is simple and what you'd expect from authentic Mexican takeout. My staple from down south is carne asada tacos so that's what I ordered (plus one extra pork taco just to try it). It would have been awesome to see some options like cabeza, lengua, or el pastor tacos but I suppose these may not be safe menu items for a business in a hipster area like Riverside. My friends ordered the chicken nachos which were massive and quite delicious but not my style for dining out Mexican.
First of all, I have to say that the food was plentiful which was a nice surprise so I think that the price was fair overall. A little pricier than what you'd expect for Mexi street food in AZ or New Mexico but still fair. The carne asada tacos were glorious! Hot, flavorful and mouthwatering they were pretty dang close to what I crave from back in AZ. Not exactly but pretty dang close. The pork wasn't exactly what I expected so I'd probably not get it again but it was still decent. Overall it is definitely the best Mexican food you'll find in Jax!
I'll be a regular customer here but as I told them while I was there, I have a few suggestions: 1) offering Horchata is a must!! I will order one every single day if they offer it, 2) get some better seating for diners who choose to stay, and 3) a salsa bar would be a nice addition.
So, this place gets 5 stars as a Jax Mexican food restaurant and a solid 4 stars if I was comparing it to Mexican I like in the southwest!...
