Smoke in the City BBQ — Restaurant in Jacksonville

TL/DR: The BEST BBQ chicken in Jacksonville. Pink truck, family-owned, absolutely worth it. Get there early because they sell out! — It’s off University Blvd, look for the pink truck and the smoker.

Hands down, they have the BEST smoked BBQ chicken I have tried in Jax. You can fight me on that, but if you haven’t tried their food yet, I’m not listening to you. 😆

The fact that it’s family owned and operated makes it even better. The husband and wife who run it are some of the kindest people you’ll ever meet. They’ve been serving up mouthwatering BBQ for over 20 years, and it shows in every bite. They also offer catering orders for large parties.

I love supporting local, family-owned businesses, and this is one you NEED to add to your list.

A word of advice: they do sell out — so if you have your heart set on something specific, plan to get there early.

If you’re looking for the PERFECT rib spot, I gauarantee you this is your place! My husband and I truly enjoyed the food here. It’s a husband and wife team who owns the business and they were nice and pleasant. I ordered their rib combo and my husband ordered their chicken combo. Both tasted amazing! My favorite part were the ribs and the smoked cabbage. The ribs were big, and so tasty and tender, falling off the bone. The smoked cabbage was unlike any other cabbage I’ve tasted. Food here comes in hot out the kitchen. Upon entering, customers are greeted by a older lady who is not so nice( I tipped her anyway, still no thank you, had to ask for silverware) How are orders placed? You place your order then they call your number/name when your food is ready. They have a seating area outside which is nice for Florida days( they could use some better outside decor). The food is OK, however the ribs were salty, and not fully cooked. I have mixed emotions about the ribs. They were salty yet skinny and semi cooked( medium rare ribs😑.
