I'm a huge fan of Yamato. I generally try to go at least weekly if I can. The sushi is great and the Bento boxes are excellent. I haven't tried it, but my friend says the noodles are really good, as well. It's all pretty reasonably priced, although the sushi is - as to be expected - a bit on the pricier side. Cheaper than most places, especially in Alabama, but it doesn't feel "overpriced." If you and your friends or family expect to get much sushi, though, you can expect a much higher check. Most everything else on the menu (which is fairly varied) will run you about $12 with a drink. Unless you order alcohol, which, like every restaurant, is ludicrously overpriced.
The building used to be a Guthries, and it's obvious if you're aware of this fact. However, they have done a really good job with redecorating it. Since the building used to be a Guthries, it is kind of small, which becomes a problem if the place gets crowded. Lunch is a great time to go as there are generally fewer people and the sushi lunch is a great deal.
The servers are generally nice and attentive, but I have occasionally gotten an obviously new server who didn't know the menu well or seemed uncertain of what to do sometimes (like one girl who forgot to bring my drink one time). The servers that have been there more or less since the opening are really great, though.
If you like Japanese at all, it's a great place to go. If you're a JSU student, it's also very nearby - within walking distance from the food court/bookstore, so that's very convenient. Definitely...
Read moreYamato Steak House of Japan in Jacksonville, Alabama, offers Japanese cuisine with amazing hospitality. Yamatoâs is located at 105 Mountain St NW; this local restaurant has become very popular among the students at Jacksonville State University and its community and local residents. The menu consists of several Japanese dishes such as hibachi, sushi, sashimi, bento boxes, and even Japanese deserts like fluffy Japanese donuts. The most popular items include the Chicken Teriyaki Bento Box, Spicy Tuna Roll, and the Southern Belle Roll. However, my personal favorites are the eggs rolls, Alaska Roll, Fried Rice, and the Sugar Japanese Donuts. The hibachi meals are prepared to order as that is what a friend had, and she said it was amazing, and the sushi is also very fresh as you can feel and taste it in the ingredients. The staff is very friendly and provides attentive service. The atmosphere is very relaxed and welcoming, making it great for both a casual outing with friends or special occasions with loved ones. For anyone needing a to go order, Yamato offers a drive-thru service, which allows customers to enjoy their meal at home if theyâre not a fan of crowds. Overall Yamatoâs is a place I would recommend to anyone they provide great service, great food, and a...
Read moreWe had the best experience here yesterday 7/3. We thought they may had been closed for the 4th but they were open and that was a plus already. We have eaten here so many times before but the food yesterday and our server Jules was amazing. She made us super comfortable, able to relax and rely on her to do her job correctly and that made this trip much more beneficial. Our food was brought out super quickly and it was presented very well. We order the same Sushi Deluxe every time and we order it with Red Tuna and the sushi was the freshest it has EVER been. I am pregnant and not supposed to eat raw fish but my husband shared how fresh it was and I love sushi, I couldn't resist, I tried 1 piece and it didnt make me sick and it was awesome! Super great place to eat and carry your family and in my opinion is the best sushi and Japanese steakhouse from here to Birmingham! Yume and Fuji and Ono can't even...
