Franklin Street Tavern — Restaurant in Janesville

I was really excited to try this place out since I love supporting local businesses. Unfortunately, we did not have a good experience. We came in around 6:30pm on a Saturday night. It was myself, my husband, and our two children. We were the only people not seated at the bar and who appeared to be eating. Our server came up and asked us for our drink order. No introduction. No hello. Not welcoming. Okay, I can deal with someone who just wants to do their job. However, her body language and lack of acknowledgement to our “please and thank yous” made me uncomfortable. She would drop things hastily and walk away before you could say anything. When the food came - it was just meh. The kicker was when I ordered the wedge salad and asked for no blue cheese and to substitute the balsamic dressing for ranch. When it arrived, it had the balsamic dressing on it. I cringed because I did not want to say anything, but I was really looking forward to it. So I very politely said, I am sorry..I didn’t want the balsamic dressing on it. I was shocked at her reaction. She was legitimately mad at me. She said “you didn’t say no balsamic. You just said no blue cheese and that you wanted ranch!” I started to explain what I really asked for and she abruptly took the salad (with the side of ranch dressing) and said “fine! I will just remake it.” I cannot tell you how uncomfortable I was. I waited and when the salad came back, it was just 3 sad romaine leaves. Not cut up. And no ranch dressing. I was too uncomfortable to ask for anything so I stole my daughter’s ranch and tried to eat the whole leaf without a knife. I struggled for a while and when she finally made her way back, I asked for a knife to cut up the salad. You would have thought I asked her to bend over backwards. Eye rolls. Sighs.

Aesthetic? 📸💡 Pictures on deck, sparkly lights twinklin like TikTok filters ✨📷, ceiling got that FAUX FRESHNESS 🎨🤌. Energy? On god, straight immaculate 😮‍💨🙏.

And lemme TALK about the bartender 🧑‍🍳🕺—DUDE came thru rockin a New Glarus FIT that was like 👕+👖 MATCHING, whole Wisconsin drip 💦🧀 vibes… tough fit alert 🚨👀.

FOH crew? Just TWO homies holdin it down like it’s nothing 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️💨. BOH squad? 3 absolute LEGENDS cheffin it up 🇲🇽🔥 keepin the whole place fed & happy 😋. Efficiency OVERLOAD.

First time eating here, got basic service nothing special no introduction we sat ourselves. As we left the dude shamed us for not leaving a tip we were in there for a max of 30min and had one refill of water. The dude asked "Was there something wrong with the service?" we said no although his tone was depressing it seemed he didn't actually want to be serving us in the first place.
