Quick take if TL'TR - - we like grilled food and I grill out at home all the time so know the difference between grilled meat flavor and Burnt. Both our orders wreaked of burned meat left overs from the grill. Not "char" . . .. Burned. Even the sauce over the noodles and grilled Broccolini . More on that later. Note to Drafthouse. . . clean the grill of built up, stale meat left overs. Burned meat ruins any real char grilled flavor. Also .. . waited +45 minutes for our take out order.
We've stopped in for take out twice now at Draft House in Janesville, so this was out 2nd visit. My wife went in both times at between 2PM and 2:30PM on a Saturday afternoon. Our first visit was for two Draft House Craft Burgers (30 minute wait) and they were ok, but not cooked to medium well as asked. More like Medium rare. Very red inside with only a hint of outside cooked and charred.
This 2nd time wife went in and ordered our take out again waiting for it to be cooked. We ordered a Draft House Craft Burger, well done and their Short Rib Gnocchi - "Creamy Demi with exotic mushrooms and goat cheese." It took over 45 minutes to make our order and it was not crowded in mid afternoon which is why we chose to go then.
The burger was well done as ordered. We did not get the Short Rib Gnocchi and instead were given the Short Rib Entre Over pappardelle pasta, creamy Mushroom Demi sauce and grilled broccolini. We did not, of course, discover that until unbagging at home. The burger was on top of the Entre in the bag. It would have been nice to have been notified if they were out of the Gnocchi if that was the case.
But the really turn off is the Burnt Meat taste that permeated everything. Even the sauce in the Pappardelle Pasta. Not the good, grilled flavor. . . . BURNT from meat leavings on the grill . Strong, pungent . . . and...
Read moreLocal Veteran here, and I am pleased to say that my friends, colleagues, family, and I will never be visiting this establishment ever again. They have taken a restraunt that I once thought to be a fun experience for all, and turned it into place that I will not support or be associated with, in any way. When a server was in the kitchen their head chef decided it was completely okay to take a grab at a young woman trying to feel her up below the waist. When trying to do whats right and report this non-sensicle behavior, as we all have been taught from the time we were kids, the owners tried to brush it under the rug. They out-right decided they weren't going to watch any camera footage because they needed the chef more. Now, and only now, that this has become more public and Drafthouse ownership has realized the backing behind this young woman, did they finally decide to take a singular step in the right direction, and I say that ever so lightly. They have only agreed to take a look at the footage (where he obviously grabbed her), and decided that the head chef should take a leave of absence. No, not fire him, but give him a break. Who knows, this might make the food and atmosphere better for a short time. The nights of taking colleagues, friends, family, and out-of-towners here to show them a good time has surely come to an end. Anyone that handles a situation this poorly shouldn't be in charge of running a restraunt. For God's sake, he's a parent, and STILL did not make any right choices. I did not realize that I was fighting for THIS kind of behavior when I proudly served in...
Read moreI decided to order what was once my wife’s favorite meal for her birthday today. Although the total is on the high end for this specific meal, I wanted her to have her favorite meal from her favorite place on her birthday. What they gave me today was absolutely garbage. We always do fried calamari, cheese curds and the lobster Mac and cheese for her, regular Mac and cheese for me. Right away, we noticed that the calamari that are usually delicately battered with care, and moist and delicious were mostly not battered at all, just dried up octopi, one with his hole flashing me right when I opened the container. Now, I’m not naive, I know what I’m eating, but there’s a reason we order it deep fried. Typically, if you didn’t ask what it was, you wouldn’t even know. Then we realize that yeah they battered them, a giant clump of batter at the bottom of the container. I wanted to eat this once delicious food so bad that I was going to just close my eyes and pop the flasher in, but it was just simply not an option. I have never declared food that I ordered inedible, not at all usually picky, but this is flat out disgusting. And we are just getting started. My wife’s lobster Mac and cheese was just a bunch of unmelted sliced cheese with idek in it. She also said her food was inedible. My Mac and cheese was about a fourth of the container with the same, unmelted cheese slices on top. We will never be back. This isn’t even a mistake, this is trash, literally, where it ended up. Now we will have to find something else to eat after spending $100 dollars on dinner for two. Just...
