Being a fan of the man and his accomplishments in the ring, I rode my motorcycle over 100 miles just to get some bugs in my teeth and try out his restaurant. I had a sneaky feeling Mr. Bean would know a thing or two about great dining, and I was right. His place is big, comfortable, and it has a great, homey feel. There is plenty of room between tables. And it is CLEAN - I mean you could probably eat off of the floors! Not a speck of dust anywhere. Even the restrooms were spotless and big. I know that takes hard work and dedication. Apparently Eric and Mrs. Esch keep a careful eye on things and insist on perfection. All the memorabilia on display is very interesting and worth checking out. You can truly appreciate Eric's storied sports career when you see it all. And yes, the food was plentiful and unusually good too.
My server, Alex, was friendly and very helpful. She met me at the door and took great care of me for the entire visit. I had the very best tasting hamburger steak of my life, and I consider myself to be an expert on them. It was bigger than most too, and completely smothered in fresh onions and really good brown gravy. Most places will skimp you on the onions, but not Mr. Bean's. The sides were good too, and cooked to perfection. I left a perfectly clean plate ready for the dishwasher. I also had a cheesecake for desert that was about as good as they come. I have since discovered the banana pudding is Eric's own recipe and can't wait to try some. It is now 5 hours later and I haven't even thought about needing a snack. Actually, I'm ready for a nap. LOL!
Don't hesitate to give Mr Bean's a try. I plan to return with the entire family the very next time we need an excuse to take a road trip. Wifey will also put the bartender to the test. Unfortunately I didn't get to thank Eric in person for the fantastic experience, but that just means I have another great reason to...
Read moreFirst, let me say that we always eat at Mr. Beans whenever we're in Jasper and have always had a good experience. My husband asked where I would like to eat for Mother's day and I requested to go to Mr. Beans. So, after working a 12 hour night shift in a health care facility, we drove 45 minutes for dinner. We were pleasantly surprised that there were empty tables and we were seated right away. Our server brought our drinks and took our order quickly. Then, things took a turn. We waited and waited for our food, servers passing by us with no acknowledgement, and diners who were seated after us were getting their food. We were finally able to get our servers attention and were advised that she had given our table to another server. Meanwhile, the initial server kept the table behind us. We could hear her flirt with the 2 men, tease for tips, and complain about not having enough help. (I work in health care, so don't get me started about not enough help). Turns out, our food was ready but no one had bothered to check because our new server seemed unaware that she had our table. The steaks were cooked to perfection as usual so that was the only saving grace. We felt that we slipped through the cracks, which is a shame because we tip well, sometimes 100%. We plan to give Mr. Beans another chance, as we hope that this was a fluke and does not become the norm. Otherwise, we'll patronize another...
Read moreWish I could give zero stars, we live out of town and was told this was the best place. It was far from a pleasant experience, waited nearly 30 minutes to be seated, mind you it was not busy at all, get menus and start looking and as I seen the prices I was like these prices are a little on the high side. My wife ordered the boneless wings (5 pieces) my grandson who is 6 got way more food than my wife for a lot less money, $12 for 5 little pieces of chicken, McDonalds chicken nuggets ware bigger than what she got. Asked for the manager he comes out the gate with attitude and says “ we put a little extra in the kids plates so they are happy”, my wife asked what about the one paying the bill and he says the menu shows how much you get for what you pay for. Was not expecting little pieces or such rude behavior who is the manager that I later find out is the owner. If he treats customers like this how does he treat the employees he has. Our daughter lives here and we like finding new places to try but overpriced mediocre food will not get us back in, I will be glad to go anywhere else and spend a $100 bill for my family to eat. Yes I put one star on everything because of such rude behavior and horrible horrible...
