The Old Mule House in Jasper Georgia was an utter disappointment. The only mouthwatering food they serve up are the pictures posted on their website. Unfortunately, we fell for it, and we were deceived. The Fish & Chips can be summarized as greasy, soggy, undercooked, and tasteless. My goodness do they taste the food they serve to their customers? The Mule Old House show you cut potatoes in the picture on the internet, but we were served day-old french-fries that taste like I just described them. Is that not “bate-and-switch”? I am starting to get it now, the “Chief cook” was a use car salesman last week. Well, that is not the only clunker we overpaid for.
The Steak Frites were ordered medium rare. What we were served was a heap of done something, thrown in a not so pleasant pile on a plate with a small amount of chimichurri sauce slathered on top along with the same old day-old fries which they served with the soggy fish & chips. So delicious looking on the website, but so disgusting when ordered. That was not the end of The Old Mulehouse assault on the culinary world. We ordered more!
The Alfredo Pasta with shrimp was next. Overcooked, hard shrimp was served with a watery white sauce which we will assume was their poor rendition of Alfredo sauce along with their wonderfully overcooked macaroni elbows. The silver lining? They spared us the day-old fries!
If you are hankering for a culinary beating that you will not soon forget, then visit The Old Mulehouse and take their abuse. But, if you want something better, go...
Read moreWe have been going here for years, but it has really gone downhill. They are usually VERY busy now and the hostesses do not handle it well, unfortunately. The last few times we have been, including tonight, the service has been quite poor. We don’t complain or treat servers badly (and never will) but we probably won’t go back again. They have lots of new servers, which is fine, except they clearly are not training them, which is very frustrating when it’s busy and the prices are not cheap. Their most popular appetizer “cheese fries”used to be really good, thick french fries with a delicious cheese over the top. They are now normal, thin fries and the cheese has changed and is not nearly as good. Tonight we got two side salads in place of fries and they were TINY. One person at our table got the burger ($15) and it was the smallest burger I have ever seen at a restaurant. Legitimately a large slider. The table next to us also got a burger and it was the same size so it wasn’t just ours. Our go-to plate is the chicken gyro, which they also changed. The chicken is now basically plain strips instead of smaller pieces of good marinated chicken. All of this, coupled with the very poor service, is why we won’t go back. For the price, they have really gone in the wrong direction and in a clear effort to turn a bigger profit, it’s not worth it at all IMO. Unfortunate to see since in years past they have had consistently good food...
Read moreEXCELLENT: service & apps! Charity was our server and is the type of server who reminds you some people still really put care and consideration into customer service, leaving us impressed. The apps, pimento beer cheese fries & whipped honey feta were AMAZING… 10/10. GREAT: asparagus side, Mac & cheese “brûlée” (it’s just really good Mac and cheese, no brûlée), grits (fantastic, not the best I’ve ever had but fluffy, flavorful, and creamy!), and the fried fish is pretty darn good, too! Good: Salmon & trout… look. The salmon was cooked excellently, though unfortunately, a little bland compared to the trout. The trout was great, but had bones in it. Bad: the ginger carrots… look, it didn’t taste bad, but for $5 I expected fresh cooked carrots not canned/ frozen carrots and that’s exactly what they were. The flavor was good, but what! Atmosphere: okay. It feels like a brewery. It seems flat, so fairly accessible with removable chairs for easy wheelchair access. I’m not sure about the bathrooms.
Alcohol: I got the pistachio White Russian and another person at the table got a rum drink. The rum drink came out with a fun dried orange garnish and tasted good. The pistachio White Russian was okay, but no real pistachio taste.
We walked from the Woodbridge inn and are extremely satisfied with the meal. The best thing it has going for it is excellent customer service and...
