My family and I went here on a Friday night before Karaoke began. First I want to say the good: The wait staff and employees were super friendly. The bad: The serving sizes were not consistent, (We ordered a large serving of Alligator bites to share between two people. When it came out it looked as if we got the very bottom of the last bit in a box. When asked if this was a large, we were very shortly told it was a large order. It was the same amount as the person next to us who got a regular order. The table next to us was served after us, and also ordered a large. Their plate, however, was absolutely heaping with large pieces of alligator. (It must have been a fresh box.) Additionally, every bit of food that was fried was salted to the point of being nearly inedible. Even the kids found it unappealing due to the ungodly amount of salt. (Perhaps do not add additional salt to food seasoned with Cajun seasoning already containing salt.) The "batter" to the chicken wings was... odd and clumpy. The only food that we tried that was objectively good was the red beans and rice. Also, if you are looking through these reviews, please pay attention to the snarky and combative responses to any negative reviews received. THAT is what seals the deal on us never going back.
EDITED TO ADD RESPONSE TO OWNER COMMENT The person we spoke to who served our plates appeared to be the Manager. As I had said, she was very short and snippy when we said something. After that, no we did not complain about the salt, and in our view, it wouldn't have been productive anyway. The table next to us arrived 45 minutes after we had sat down. I do not know what that has to do with anything, as I didn't state they had their order before us. To address this, they did have their order out to them much quicker than we did, as they did not have to wait 45minutes for their larger group to be served. I had left that out, but that is the truth of the matter. To quote you "but ok." As I've only been here the one time, I did not double check what the name was of the plate. It was the Large "Gator tail" though arguably, it was little bites of Gator which adds to the point. It was not the same portion as the Large on the next table, rather it was the same portion as the person sitting out our table who ordered a regular. I simply do not believe that you use no salt to season. Again, it was overkill to the point of being nearly inedible. It's okay, as I reply to the snarky reply with love and blessings as well. I'll also update the stars to reflect your response to these issues.
*2nd Edit to address owner's edit of their response: I'm glad that you have edited your response to reduce some of the snark. Some places do well with valid critiques, others do not.
*3rd Response: For anyone reading this, just allow the owner's replies to valid criticism speak for themselves. The willingness to publicly respond with sarcasm and jabs only further proves why our experience was so terrible. Only one of us has not erased and rewritten our comments here. Good luck to...
Read moreFirst things first, my husband had the Gwen’s Jambalaya and I had the Etouffee with gator. Both were excellent! Service, however, was very disorganized. A very young man, who turned out to be the restaurant’s namesake!, seated us and was very polite and pleasant. Then, we were left for a while. We had no one, in particular, come as our waiter/waitress. Finally, a young woman that was arranging a table asked what we wanted. My husband’s food came out 10-15 min before mine. This was noticed by a man we thought may be a host, who turned out to be one of the owners. He first asked if we’d made reservations, lol! This in a restaurant only half full! Then he went to check on my food. We consistently waited and waited to be waited on. The young woman, who turned out to be the other owner of this husband and wife team, came by toward the end of our meal. She brought out some wonderful warmed bread for me, when I’d only asked for a slice of bread. Jessica then stayed and chatted with us, telling us their story and about their children, including Tre’vionne. The recipes were from her husband, George’s, family and passed down. Jessica was wonderfully kind and friendly! (She did tell us that reservations weren’t required, but recommended on the weekend.) Overall, I would absolutely recommend this restaurant. We perhaps will not go on the weekend, lol. I believe this is a family endeavor, that their service will only get better and they are...
Read moreI will admit that I had a little sour taste in my mouth about going here because twice we had tried to go here and twice we were told that they couldn’t take us without reservations even though that’s not advertised anywhere. However I LOVE Cajun food and was persistent to try it and we finally got to yesterday evening.
We were there a total of 3 hours and while yes the wait is long for typical restaurants the food is made from scratch and made to order and FRESH. We got the hush puppies and fried okra and they were delicious! It did take a while to get but again for made from scratch, fresh, made to order it was worth it. Personally I ordered the shrimp po-boy with a side of red beans and rice. The food came out and the portions are huge and the food is very reminiscent of the food I’ve had while visiting New Orleans. It was delicious and worth the long wait. We finished it off with beignets and it was the perfect cherry on top of our experience.
Yes the wait was long. In total we were there for 3 hours but everyone was that worked there and the owner were very attentive and thanked us over and over again for waiting and apologized for the long wait. I would gladly wait again to have food like that. It was incredible. They are still new and working out the kinks and I cannot...
