Howie's is located inside the Stateside Hotel in the Jay Peak resort. As a hotel restaurant, I did not have high expectations when stepping in. Even then, Howie's managed to disappoint.
First, the staff ignored our existence for most of the evening. Getting seated or a waiter required much waving. Then, they provided the minimum amount of service. Any request we had was denied. My favorite was when we asked the waitress whether they could release the kids menu dishes early, and she replied with "I can't ask them that, they will kill me".
The menu had two vegetarian dishes. One ran out, the other was way overpriced. I ended up ordering the arugula salad, which tasted fine but was rather tiny at one strawberry, five blueberries, a handful of arugula leaves, and two tiny chunks of blue cheese. My wife got the Jay Burger, which was "worse than [insert name of fast-food burger chain here]". The kids had the hot dog from the kids menu, they ate the french fries but after a taste of the hot dog itself relegated it to the garbage bin.
We returned at a later day to get the lava cake as dessert. After about twenty minutes we finally received a lukewarm cake, which was decent given the circumstances.
An overall negative experience. Do yourself a favor and find a restaurant down...
Read moreThe atmosphere is fun! A sports bar vibe. The food is pricy. I got 3 small tacos for about $14. The tacos were not great and not a lot to eat. Meat had a lot of fat. I wasn't expecting too much but it was literally the only place opened for food around the resort within a walking distance. There is a door in the bar that goes directly out to the fire place which is a cool place to chill. Not sure if it's part of the restaurant. They did have the sochi olympics hockey game on russia vs usa from 2014 when I was there 3 weeks ago, so I respect that. Overall a fun vibe, but food...
Read moreThis was a nice break from the busyness of the Hotel Jay area of the resort. We tried getting a seat at the restaurant at the Hotel on a holiday weekend but they were booked and the Tavern was a mad house. Decided to check out Howies and we were met with open tables, friendly staff, and an extremely quiet atmosphere. Nice change of pace.
On top of that, the Nashville Hot sliders and the Ultimate Grilled cheese dishes were mouth watering. Almost more cheese than I could handle and I'm a cheese lover. Highly recommend checking...
