We've eaten at Oscar's a fair number of times, now, and each time has been a wonderful experience. We've also come in for takeout, but haven't used the drive thru, because we like to come in and interact with the crew, and see some of the memorabilia in the restaurant lobby.
The crew shows they care, they are definitely service-based, and seem to enjoy what they are doing as a team, as the service as well as the food, has always been great.
They are frequently packed during mealtimes, which shows in cars in their lots, on the street, sometimes overflowing into nearby businesses. They are a legitimate local experience, and well worth patronizing. They show care and loyalty to their staff, posting birthdays and personal kudos to them on Facebook, also closing during bad weather like heavy snow so as not to endanger them, they announce these because they are also protecting customers.
This morning the place was rockin', and service was excellent. The Hoss' Hungry Man plate will fill you up well, and did this morning, as I came off a round trip to the St. Louis area and back. First time I've had their biscuits and gravy, and those were worth the visit by themselves.
Their Pork Tenderloin plates are also delicious, as is everything else I've eaten there.
Sad news I must share today, March 30, 2024, the notice posted on Oscar's door...
Read moreOscars is one of those local joints that serves breakfast brunch and lunch in the early part of the day, then close at 2PM. They reopen in the evenings for dinner. They are a local destination, have been for years and the food will show you why. The new location on Schothill drive is tucked in a back area of parking but can easily be found and has plenty of parking and is definitely a local favorite for good reason. Their breakfast is fantastic. Fluffy buttery biscuits to go with gravy, as well as all of your favorite’s eggs, bacon, pancakes, and waffles. The staff is attentive and makes sure that your cup of coffee is never low or cold. The atmosphere is of a 1950’s Diner and conversations abound about the period décor. The only thing we would add, would be the small version of a jukebox at the table. The restaurant is clean, the staff is friendly, and the food is great. My Belgian waffle was crispy and the syrup a plenty. The biscuits were a great addition to the sausage gravy. Eggs cooked to order. Jenny was our server for the morning, and she was a delight. She answered our questions about Oscars because this was the first time we had visited this gem of a location. She gave us information on the background and made sure that our visit was a pleasant one. I will be back when I am in the area and hopefully can join for...
Read moreI travel all over the country and visit many restaurants and cafe's. I have went here a few times recently during travel but this morning I had the opportunity to sit at the counter and watched the staff work. They have in the past been very professional. This morning my server started arguing with another employee loudly right in front of patrons. The Six cooks that I watched seem to work well together back there with one lead, HOWEVER, ALL have several weeks if not months of beard growth, one looked like he just got up and did a half $ss man bun, and really should just shave his facial growth off as it doesn't fill in. Maybe when he is a little older. My main concern for all... NOT ONE had the required Beard Net for public safety. If it wasn't for the argument and beard nets not being used my score would have been higher. The food was good but I kept looking at it as I ate wondering if a red, brown, black or grey hair was going to show up. I ended up not finishing my food. Maybe he had an off morning but the manager or owner gave me the impression while watching, the staff at times seemed to do as they wish and don't care about their demeanor which is an influence on...
