Birrieria el Texcal — Restaurant in Jefferson Township

I ordered from Postmates, and it took 30 minutes to get to me. Why do I mention that? Because 30 minute delivery shouldn't result in food this good! Look, I grew up in California, and I have MANY families I have eaten good Mexican food from. This restaurant? OMG... just be careful cause this food will knock you out! AUTHENTIC BIRRIA is the best way to put it. I haven't tried other restaurants in the area, and after last night I don't know if I ever will. I already have friends who've driven up here TODAY after my feedback! My dad lives in Wisconsin, and he's gonna drive down! I have family in Iowa and guess what? Friends from Cleveland, Gary Indiana, Washington DC - oh yea, I'm making sure anybody who ever said they love tacos gotta come eat a large bowl of birria fom Texcal! Ask for jalapeños though cause it comes with those little red chilis, but jalapeño gives it that kick I needed! Can you eat a whole bowl without falling asleep at the table? That should be a challenge... somebody gotta make this...

Tiny restaurant, with just 6 tables. They only take cash on the weekend, and add a card surcharge during the week (it was around $1.50 for our $44 check). The food was very good, the quesadillas with goat meat were excellent, ask for dipping sauce (meat juices in a cup). The rice and beans were not the star of the show, I will skip them next time. Hubby had carne asada burrito and liked it a lot. No gristle in the meat, nicely chopped bits, big serving. Kiddo had plain quesadillas for $3.95 and that was plenty of food for her. Absolutely delicious food! They only have a small selection of Mexican beer. Bud light and Heineken. They did make me a Michelada! Was delicious!! Just ask them to rim it with chamoy and Tajin otherwise I was refreshing!
