El Gallo Bravo Lawrence ave — Restaurant in Jefferson Township

I ordered food on Oct. 16, 2022 I called to place an order for delivery because their menu said they deliver. The womam who answered (who was very rude) answered and said that they don't do deliveries anymore. I said but I have your menu in front of me and it says you deliver. Now this lady with an attitude answered oh those menus are old we don't deliver and we raised our prices as well. I was very confused since I had just received their menu a couple of days ago since I ate there recently apart from today. While I was confirming everything with what I was going to order, which wasn't even 10 seconds, she hung up on me. I called her back said why did you hang up on me when I was speaking to you, she said with even more attitude oh you didn't speak so I hung up since it was very busy apparently. I placed my order and sent someone to pick it up. Now when he went to go pick it up, that woman who spoke on the phone was talking to him very rudely. Also on top of that, the store wasn't even "busy" so she was just not in the mood to work today by the looks of it. Then, also to top it off, all the tacos I ordered hardly had any cilantro and onion on them. I was very upset with the service today....

Always open 24hrs, reliable service, good food. This is one of my staples in the neighborhood. They are often busy late at night, like 10pm-12am, so you might have to wait a little bit for your food, but the wait is never ridiculous. Food is always good, quality is consistent 👌🏼 I love that their carne asada is always lean, there's not much fat in the meat, and it's always well prepared. I often get the burrito because they make it well. Their burritos are always rolled neatly and all the ingredients are spread evenly throughout the burrito. They don't skimp on the toppings with their dishes, and overall the amount of food you get for the price is definitely fair. Aside from the food, the staff provides good service and they are all very nice people. They handle busy periods well and they work hard to get their orders out quickly 👍🏻 I've never had a bad experience with any staff here, that's one of the things that keeps me coming back. Edit: Had a profoundly negative experience picking up my food on 12/16/2024 @ 4:30pm, which felt too much like discrimination for me to be able to let it go.

The person who approached to help me appeared to act like they believed I was attempting to steal food. I am visibly trans, but my legal documents have been updated for years, and I've been to this restaurant repeatedly; there was no reason to assume I'm not who I said I am, but she nearly didn't give me my food.

I was eventually able to convince her that I am the person who placed the GrubHub order, and she gave me my food, but poignantly and loudly misgendered me as I left the building.

I've been at this for going on 8 years. I can tell the difference between earnest ignorance and discrimination, and I'd never be this upset about the former. I won't be returning and I'll be encouraging my friends to...
