Carnitas La Esquinita — Restaurant in Jefferson Township

We have been coming here for years and there food is great but I haven't gotten around to leaving them a review, but over the weekend we decided to cater from them for a party of 60 people and now I'm mad I didn't give them this deserving review sooner. I'm so glad we decided to go with them for our party because everything was so good. All the food came warm, packaged nicely, and on time. On top of that, their service was great and professional from the very start with helping us pick what food to order and telling us how much of it we would actually need for our party. Through out the whole party everyone was raving about how amazing the food was and wanted to know where the food was from. When we told our guests no one seemed to know about this "hidden gem". My only regret is I wish I would have asked if they catered before. I would absolutely recommend them for some authentic carnitas, barbacoa, and delicious food all around. Carnitas were overpriced compared to other locations, about $12 lb. They seemed old. They fried them to reheated them when I ordered so that dried them up further. They chopped them up so that they could mix in organs even though I asked for meat only. It was not edible. It was salty, dry, old, and about 1/3 organs.

The location is a hole in the wall. Looks dirty. I never saw the carnitas like at other locations, which should have been a warning sign. Service is rather poor, but nothing noteworthy. It was empty, but it was like I was bothering them. Cook had to get up from a chat on the only customer table with his friends/family to reheat and chop the carnitas. Went back to sit down. Tried to call in an order. No one answered. Placed the order online. I got a call back from a different number and placed again over the phone. Went in to pick up a chicken burrito. They said they had no orders. I left and called back the number that called me. I said I just placed an order but when I went, they said there wasn’t one. I described what I was wearing. The person on the phone said they aren’t at the store but will fix it. They gave me a call back and told me it’d be ready in 5 minutes. I truly feel this all happened because I was Black and the lady wasn’t trying to serve me. I’m sure the person working the register is the same person I was on the phone with. And the burrito gave me food...
