I don't think I've genuinely experienced a worse venue in the city of Chicago in my 7+ years of going to shows. From arenas like the United Center, to little bar venues like the Empty Bottle, Avondale Music Hall has definitely secured it's place as the worst venue to see a show in the city of Chicago.
Upon entry, we were greeted by your stereotypical tough guy bouncer, who automatically assumed my brother and I we're under the legal drinking age, and didn't even check our IDs, and while he may have been right about one of us, I can't even begin to express how unprofessional that is, I guess if there was ever an 18+ show at this venue and you look of age, you might as well try your luck since they don't check IDs!
Now once you make it inside, you have to deal with the unbearable heat that cooks this venues patrons for the duration of the show here. The two times I've been here, it's gotten so unbearably hot, I had to leave early. I noticed some of the ceiling fans didn't even work. Where does all the money they make from shows go? Clearly not back into the venue, that's for sure.
So how do they counter this you ask? By getting their security guards to stand on the barricade and drench people by flinging open water bottles into the crowd! How unbelievably unprofessional. This isn't Lollapalooza or Summer Smash, they had cases of water that they could've individually given bottles to the audience. I watched people standing far away from the action get soaked unwillingly. There's nothing fun about that. If you're a photographer shooting in the photo pit at this venue, please be mindful of your gear, because one of these security guards nearly drenched my camera in water, and could've destroyed it for good.
And don't get me started about the sound. Muddy and primarily all low end. Whether you're up close at the barricade, or in the back by merch, the sound is god awful. Somehow worse than the Aragon Ballroom, which I gotta give it to them takes skill LOL.
On the topic of merch, they took up a whole section of where one band's merch should've been to advertise the owner of the venue's merch. How ignorant.
It's clear that the Avondale Music Hall caters and specializes to the rap show experience, if all the things I listed above sound like a fun time to you, maybe you'll enjoy your time there, but they should stay in that lane. I truly hope none of my favorite bands play here in the future, as I will definitely reconsider attending at all. This...
Read morewowowowow I have never been to a venue in my entire life that had staff as rude and disrespectful to the point where it felt like harassment as much as this venue staff... I feel so bad for fans and the touring staff (who was wonderful, so nice and helpful!) of that concert because honestly it was a nightmare for both of us. The venue staff was so rude and disrespectful to everyone.
The security man at the front door? marco or marlo or something? this man was on the biggest power trip I have ever seen in my life. Full on screaming at people waiting in line for a concert, telling us to move off "his sidewalk" which is a public sidewalk. They wouldn't allow our line to move past a certain point around the building, but then this man was screaming SO aggressively for us to not bunch up or cluster and threatening to not let us into the concert even though we were not doing anything wrong.
The venue staff refused to move down the line to ask the back of the line to move back, instead screaming at the people at the front who had absolutely no way to move backwards. He was threatening people in line who weren't even arguing with him and pushing people to move out of the way so they weren't blocking "his sidewalk". You cannot expect people to form an organized safe line if all you're doing is yelling at people and not creating any sort of actual plan to create space.
And also, the front staff that's supposed to be watching the crowd for safety was filming the concert on their phones and had their backs to the crowd the entire show. Including when someone passed out. Way to keep a safe environment for the patrons of your establishment. I was truly disappointed by this venue. The only redeeming thing about the concert was that the group was amazing to see live and their touring staff...
Read moreFor a music hall in chicago it’s understandable if needing to maybe pat down individuals. But this is for the short lady with glasses who thinks she knows about respect. You are very unprofessional, I have been to many music halls before this little place and NEVER ever has anyone yelled at a concert goer or called them stupid for bringing drugs or things that are prohibited. First she took my friends items and yelled at her face saying she’s too stupid to bring stuff into the concert then this lady shoved my next friend and straight yelled in her face that she will teach her respect since her mother didn’t teach her respect. This lady wants to talk about respect while simultaneously shoving my second friend and yelling at both of my friends faces, YOU ARE FAR FROM RESPECTFUL. There are ways to go about things in a KEY WORD PROFESSIONAL manner like I have seen many concert employees do countless amount of times, and you little lady obviously have no idea about professionalism because the disgusting behavior you decided was okay that night. If supposedly your the manger do a better job because i’ve seen so many other mangers respectfully take peoples prohibition iteams. Your lack of PROFESSIONALISM and RESPECT shows the well deserved 3.5 star place that you...
