Found this place on the one bite pizza barstool sports app. El Pres and Eddie were here and it got a good review. New to portage park so I had to check it out, only 12 minutes away. If a pizza place in Chicago makes it onto One bite and is reviewed in person by Barstool, you know it's got something good. We looked at the menu, and my wife immediately said we had to order from here over anywhere else, all they do is pizza! I've been around to some great places in Chicago (Pequods, JB Alberto's, Dues, Uno's, Piece Pizza, Coalfire, Michaels, Vito & Nick's, Ranallis, Nuevo Italy, Pizza Villa, Giordano's, Lou Malnatis, Tortorices, Spacca Napoli, Jimmy's Pizza Cafe, the list goes on). This place STACKS up, and stacks up big time to the big names in Chicago pizza. Placed an order for the deluxe 16 in pizza (sausage, green pepper, mushroom, onions), it was $24. 20-25 minute pick up. While it was cash only, this is a small business. Walking up to the place, you see signs on front that say they've been there for 50 years! Walking in, it's a small front waiting area, glass partition, with an area to reach under and exchange money for pie. The back was a longer room, where they make the pies and stick them in the oven. Three person operation, and it looked like they were hiring for a driver. Woman saw me and came to help take care of my order. Done right on time, and they have a little heart shaped pan that you put your money in. Sign on the desk that says there is an ATM across the street. Ranch sold for .55 a packet. It was an awesome ma and pa local small business that I was happy to support. They were also very proud of their 50 year anniversary, and I got a free pen from them commemorating it! Free 2 liter with my purchase as well. The woman was so nice, and was very happy to receive a cash tip. Rung me up on the oldest cash register I've ever seen. That thing had to of been from the 1930s. Gave me my pizza in an old school bag instead of a box. The pizza was phenomenal. My wife is very picky and loves a cracker thin crust. This crist was thin, crispy, crackery and held the toppings firmly. Reminded me a lot of Vito and Nick's. The toppings were fresh, flavorful, the onions sliced thin, the pie sliced in tavern style tiny squares that made it easy to grab and eat. Not a single slice left over. We will be back. Superb experience, amazing pizza, great local small business pizza shop. Our new favorite place. Don't pay attention to these negative reviews focused on cash only. Read moreTried them for the first time last night. Their pizza has good flavor. The crust is thin and very crispy, which I like. Too many thin crusts are soggy and limp. Theirs is stiff and has a nice crunch. The sauce has a good flavor, but I do prefer just a bit more spices. Toppings had decent distribution - most slices had each ingredient. I dropped one star for two reasons. Firstly, because they didn't cover the crust in toppings. There was an inch or inch and a half all around that was just sauce. So, even though we paid for a 16", we actually got a 13" or 14" on a 16" crust. I understand they don't want toppings to slide off while cooking, but I have never had another pizza with such a large border of only sauce. Enough so that the corners... Weird how we call triangular pieces on a round pizza, corners, but I digress... The corners had nothing but sauce and a speck of an ingredient. That didn't make me smile. Secondly, they have a $2 off coupon online and I mentioned it when ordering. I was told to show it to the driver. "We don't have a working printer" "Just take a photo and show him on your phone" Ok. This is a pointless exercise. When someone mentions the coupon, just take the $2 off the total. Or better yet, just make all pizzas $2 cheaper and eliminate the coupon completely. Then they could just be less expensive than the competition. Also, I need to mention that it is a little odd that they have thin crust, pan pizza and sodas ONLY. That is the extent of their menu. No sandwiches, salads, etc. Ok, I get it - streamlined and focus. But no pizza bread or garlic bread even? Here's a free tip - those are moneymakers and some people want them along with their pizza. So, they may go elsewhere, losing a sale and more lost profit on the add-ons. Anyway... All in all, a...
Read moreCalled this place up to see if they were open and if they has slices available. Although the man was nice he missed the mark on a couple of things. For one, it’s a cash only establishment. This should definitely come up on the phone. # 2 when i placed my order over the phone he should have also mentioned that he would not start it until it was paid, I would have never went there. When I got there and realized it was both not ready and cash only, I told him I would be back that I was going to Walgreens to the cash. When I returned, HE STILL HADN’T PUT THE SLICES IN!!!! I wish I would had changed my mind right there but I didn’t….I ordered and returned to pick up my slices, 2 cheese & 1 sausage. I was curious (due to mixed reviews) so I dove right into the sausage………it was the most disgusting pizza I had ever eaten. The 5 star reviews are either family, friends, or paid reviews. First the smell of the pizza shop was disgusting but I ignored it (& every other red flag apparently)……listen to the bad reviews the only good thing about was the crust was super thin and crunchy but the sauce or sausage had NO FLAVOR - NONE! Not even the cheese tasted good! Save your money and go to lil cesar’s…..at least you know what to expect.
I tossed the entire box out in the trash and went to McD’s!
I feel bad writing this review but they should feel worse for selling that, and...
