They need to get their shit together. In 2023, I wanted to order sushi for New Year’s Eve, I walked in to a crowd of people waiting for orders and was told they don’t take new orders for NYE and that all the people in the restaurant had called weeks in advance. So, I waited an entire year to make my NYE sushi dreams come true. I called in early November 2024 and was told to call back after thanksgiving to place an order for NYE. So I did just that. After thanksgiving, I called and placed an order for NYE. I called 3 more times since I placed the order just to confirm they had it because I really wanted to make sure nothing would go wrong- each time I called, they confirmed my order and pick up time of 6pm. Then the day finally came - NYE - I traveled across the city to pick up my sushi. I was on time and arrived to a crowd of angry people in the restaurant. I arrived at 6pm and people who were supposed to pick up their orders at 4pm were STILL WAITING. I observed absolute chaos in the food prep area - they literally had individual slips of paper with people’s numbers floating around everywhere. Why weren’t these orders compiled into one document?? Have they never heard of a spreadsheet? It was chaos. I felt bad for them but they created the mess. It was absolute insanity. Some people waited 3+ hours for their orders that were called in ahead of time. I ended up getting my sushi but I was robbed of 2.5 hours on NYE all because of their lack of organization and poor planning. This could’ve been avoided. And it seems that this isn’t the first time Lawrence Fish has had this issue on NYE. While I was waiting, a man came in and said that this happened last year too. Lawrence, get your act together or you are going to ruin your business! This is insanity. No need to things to be this stressful for your business or for customers. Invest in a POS system or for crying out loud if you make a commitment to a customer, FOLLOW THROUGH WITH IT! To the young man who took charge that night, who was communicating with the crowd: do the right thing and please don’t let this happen again. You are going to lose business from this. Please learn from this and put orders in one place so this doesn’t...
Read moreThis was my first time trying sushi from this place. The first order tasted good, so I placed a second order right after and paid for it. However, shortly after I left, I had stomach issues and ended up with food poisoning.
When I returned to pick up my second order, the restaurant was already closed — no one had informed us about the closing time. The staff didn’t give any warning or reminder.
The next day, I called the restaurant twice to ask for a refund or at least a solution. The first woman who answered was extremely rude — she practically yelled at me and wouldn’t even let me finish speaking. Later, another person called me back, but instead of trying to help, she immediately said it wasn’t their responsibility, saying “everyone knows!” — but how would I know? It was my first time there.
I explained that they could have called after closing, but I never received a call. Also, they didn’t answer the phone at 8 PM, even though they were supposed to be open until then.
⚠️ Be warned: I got food poisoning from their food, and even though I paid for a second order, I never received it and they refused to refund me. I wasn’t even demanding a full refund — I just wanted a polite, reasonable conversation. But their customer service was shockingly bad. I will...
Read more[CASH ONLY] I was excited to try this place based on all the great reviews, and it definitely did not disappoint. It features an extensive sushi and roll menu and serves high-quality takeout sushi with some of the lowest prices I’ve seen in Chicago— in addition to selling fish and other Asian snacks and condiments in-store. Though they only do take-out, they have some tables and seats inside so you can eat inside if you want.
I ordered the 33pc sushi tray, which came with 3 of each sushi item, from fish to egg to tofu skin. I called ahead to order on a Monday afternoon and it was ready within 20 minutes. I’d definitely recommend calling to order ahead of time on busier nights.
For $40, the sushi itself was high quality and enough for 2 people to feel full and satisfied afterwards. The fish cuts were thick and fresh— I was especially a fan of the salmon and eel. The tamago (egg) sushi was some of the best I’ve had in Chicago. I really recommend this place and would love to try an even more diverse selection of their sushi, nigiri, and rolls in the future! —
