So I came here to try the steak and eggs ๐ฅ but changed my mind and picked the steak and eggs ๐ฅ skillet instead which comes with some cooked ๐ณ potatoes ๐ฅ eggs ๐ฅ made your way and a choice of either toast, or mini pancakes ๐ฅ. The plate itself isn't a traditional "hot skillet " but it I definitely enjoy everything and noted the food was prepared with great care with fresh ingredients and I was so full I still have some pancakes ๐ฅ left in my fridge for tomorrow.
The skillet comes with a green tomatillo sauce so that was a nice surprise and I didn't have to wait long for my food to come out.
This being my first time here I didn't see beverages listed in the menu so I asked my server for suggestions without realizing until the end of the meal there is a prominent chalk board against a wall with a complete list of canned sodas, juices, jarritos brand pops, horchata, milk ๐ฅ and milkshakes. She suggested I order the strawberry horchata which was only slightly tasting of cinnamon but it reminded me too much of the child's drink strawberry ๐ Nestlรฉ Qwik drink which I never really cared for. I think the drink was OK but I probably would have preferred a simple tomato ๐ juice drink to accompany my breakfast food.
The place itself is kind of worn down and could use some remodeling. Also to get to the bathroom ๐ป you do need to walk through the kitchen area so it's kind of a weird layout.
I believe I paid around $27 including tip for the skillet ๐ณ and strawberry ๐ iced horchata which is a bit on the pricey side for a diner as low key as this one. Also there was a large table of rowdy high school kids here thar kind of killed the vibe for me.
In summary food here is incredible but a tad pricey for the location and the fact that this tiny diner is not a fine dining experience. This seems to be an ideal breakfast spot for younger people that sells a combination of Mexican and American fare in a very low...
ย ย ย Read moreThis is a small Hispanic family owned, Christian restaurant that is basically a diner. The quality of the food is quite variable so you never really know what to expect. I've had good breakfasts and mediocre breakfasts. Overall don't expect anything too impressive and you wont be disappointed. It's a good basic diner with reasonable food. There is really nothing else that's walking distance in the neighborhood so that adds to the appeal for me, since I'm only a block away. I will say the staff is always amazingly nice and pleasant.
You may wonder why I pointed out this seems to be Hispanic-owned and Christian. This morning they had what sounded like an Hispanic radio on at the same time they had the TV playing on The 700 Club channel (Christian) with the audio turned up! Not a particularly pleasant aural experience and not very pleasant if you don't happen to...
ย ย ย Read moreI rarely write reviews, and especially for places that I don't want gummed up by random people, but I love the family who owns this place and I'd like them to continue into the far future. Old school neighborhood diner with Ecuadorian dishes like salchippapas and chilaquiles. But the key is their American diner staples. BLT, turkey BLT and Monte Cristos are perfect, tater tots super crispy. They have homemade cream of chicken soup where you can pick out the bay leaves. Omelets are solid as are the hasbrowns and fluffy side of pancakes. No b.s. upcharge on eggs. All sandwiches are $12-14 and veggie omelet with cheese was $14. For 5 people, including delicious strawberry shake was $104, plus a $20 tip for Gigi and Carol, the sweetest waitresses in the world. Go there, don't be a snob, and enjoy a home...
