Mr. Cake — Restaurant in Jefferson Township

When I say that the man behind Mr. Cake, the owner Mario, went above and beyond for our family, I am not exaggerating. All of this with no photo to go by, simply my description over the phone and a last minute hopeful ask. He did what I would have never expected of anyone. And for that, our blended family is forever grateful to you Mario.

I called on Sunday morning, to order a cake beyond last minute. We googled several bakeries. We technically didn't need it until Monday, but we were calling around on Sunday to try to place an order. No bakeries were open on Sunday, especially none in Crystal Lake. On top of that, we were calling from California and were not in the state. Most bakeries required an in-person order and payment in person too. This small task was becoming daunting and almost impossible. I called one more place, and I found Mr. Cake! His staff was friendly, and at first the answer was no, but they must've heard my hope lost in my voice, because they passed the phone to the owner, and he happens to live near Crystal Lake, and even went out of his way to drop it off to the birthday girl for us on his way home. This isn't something he normally does, and for that, we are FOREVER GRATEFUL.

I was very pleased with my experience at Mr. Cake. I walked in late Friday needing a cake for the next day Saturday by 1 pm. I had already been turned down by another place for lack of time to prepare my order, but Mr. Cake told me they could help me out, but it would be a basic cake. I agreed and placed my order. When I picked up my cake I was pleasantly surprised how cute and well done my last minute cake looked! Even though they say said it would be "basic" it was far more creative than previous cakes ordered from Jewel. I got chocolate mousse filling and buttercream frosting and it was DELICIOUS!!! Seriously, I was not sure what to expect, but everyone who ate cake at my party agreed that this was our new place for cakes! The frosting was the perfect balance between not too sweet, and not too buttery, the cake was moist, the mousse was silky- absolutely perfect execution on all aspects of my order! I wanted to write a review for those out there considering Mr. Cake for their future needs. Seriously, the customer service, friendliness, creative artwork and delicious product will not disappoint you! Thank you Mr. Cake for making my son an awesome Mario Themed cake that...

This is my 1st time ordering from Mr. Cake and the experience far exceeded my expectations. First off, everyone is so helpful and willing to go above and beyond to create a beautiful cake. A shout out to Jesus for providing exceptional customer service from start to pick up. To the pastry chefs, for all their hard work. They created exactly what I wanted, a simple yet elegant and delicious cake to mark an important milestone.

Now, the cake-they created a custom photo cake for my son's 30th birthday with over 30 pictures on it. It was enormous and absolutely beautiful. The cake itself was delicious, moist and not too sweet, despite the buttercream. It was chocolate and yellow with strawberries, which they did not skimp on. Many guest compliments on how yummy it was and the exceptional execution. I myself, am not a cake eater, but it was beyond delish.

Thank you again for creating a one-of-a-kind cake and making a milestone so much more special. Definitely will return...
