UPDATE: Four meals in, still love this restaurant. We took some special friends here and they loved it as well. We were there on a recent Saturday night and they were full when we took the last table in the back. Word is getting out. . . Great new restaurant. My wife and I tried it today and were impressed all around. First, nice interior, decorated well. Food was delicious- I had a soft-shelled crab for appetizer and it was perfectly breaded and fried, and at $8.50 well priced. I had the ramen soup, choosing the pork with spicy miso broth, and fried chicken for the protein. Delicious, and a generous portion, I almost couldn't finish it all. I think it's the best bowl of ramen I've had in Chicago for some time, honestly. The wife had the kani neko sushi roll, and it was wonderful- black sushi rice, salmon skin and other tasty ingredients. Again, large portion, delicious and presented well.
I want to go here more and eat more things on their somewhat large menu!
A few key observations: Very affordable prices for delicious food. Generous portions. Attentive service. Parking is available on the street or, I think, in the Dollar General parking lot (at least there's no sign saying you can't) This is a GREAT addition to the neighnorhood (that storefront was a vacant eyesore for years, but no more) There are about six tables, if they keep getting all these 5-star reviews it might be hard to get a table at some point (but that would be awesome for them).
Bottom line: GO. ...
Read moreWent yesterday, the two of us ordered a sushi roll each, as well as a full entree each. The sushi was good (we had fried rolls, not raw fish so I can’t speak for that), but our entrees each featured chicken that tasted old and had a weird consistency. We did not finish our meals, and alerted the waitress of our worries about the quality/lack of freshness of the chicken. The waitress took one of our dishes, said she would go “check on” the chicken (not sure what that means), and just came back with the check. I was surprised as she didn’t offer any explanation or solution, but rather charged us for the whole meal. Not wanting to cause commotion, we paid our dues and left. Shortly after, feelings of dizziness and stomach ache ensued. A few hours later, it turned into full blown sickness, I will spare the gross details. By night time it was shivering and chills, we had to call out of work, it is that bad. I never leave reviews for restaurants I don’t enjoy, but this was different, as it is clearly a health violation. Old chicken should never be served and if the staff had done more to check on the quality of the meat they serve, I would not have to leave this review. But this is to warn others of possible food sickness from this place. I truly hope they do something...
Read moreWe went tonight the grand opening today and we were delighted by the great service and Energy that the staff had! It’s beautiful inside with all the renovations and work they put in! Very limited seating but cozy and comfy for the space.
We tried the spicy garlic miso with pork belly which was delicious. The pork belly was tender and it had a nice kick! We also got some chicken fried rice which had great flavor and the rice was incredibly fresh! Lastly we ordered the OMG roll and the unagi avocado roll. Very very tasty! Good size portions of fish in your rolls and as someone who likes a little extra sauce on my rolls, I was happy! The rolls were huge and you really get your bang for your buck! Very large portions on all the food! We cannot wait to have the rest for our leftovers tomorrow! I am hoping to try the Thai food on our next visit as we will be regular customers!
