I hate leaving bad reviews, especially for a local neighborhood bar, one which I really love going to (half the time) but the owner's need to know what is going on in their establishment. There is only one problem with this otherwise delightful bar at the end of the brown line, and that problem is huge; it's the bartender that works on Friday nights. Another review says his name is Danny. I don't know his name for sure, but I know he works Fridays. I think he works other nights, but I know Friday for sure because that's the day I really want to get a drink with friends after work. I stopped giving my money to this place on that day, because of how terrible the service is. According to other reviewers, the same rude, hipster makes up the cocktails too, which makes sense because there are too many of them, they have "fancy" ingredients that most people can't pronounce and they take way too long to make when the bar has more than 5 people in it. I would imagine a miserable person came up with the cocktails so they could simultaneously annoy their coworker, alienate the clientele and destroy the business they work for. Too cool for everyone! My friends say the cocktails are ok but don't think they worth the long wait and the eye rolling. What's okay to order, if every order makes the bartender annoyed? Anyway, I'm only in there for a call drink, shots or beer, and I have to wait a really long time to get that here when that bartender is working. It takes less than 20 seconds to get a beer open it and put it on the bar, but in order for that to happen, the bartender has to ask you if you want another drink, or welcome you, or not ignore you when you are trying to get them to acknowledge you. I don't understand why anyone would employ someone like this in a service industry. I don't know if he's an owner and that's why he's still there, but it's really unfortunate. It is such a cute bar that has a great WELCOMING vibe on every other night, except when that bartender is working. OWNERS: I know this is a long negative review and I'm sorry, but your in my neighborhood and I'm writing this to hopefully help you know what is going on with your business. I can guarantee that you have lost money with this person working for you. Some weekends, I've passed by your bar to see it mostly empty, and I'm sure this is the reason. In minutes, the train right across the street can take a person to areas where there are plenty of bars where they can get a drink.....if you are the owner AND the bartender on Fridays that I am talking about; never mind. I'll just spend my money elsewhere until you go out of business and there is a better managed bar in the same spot.

I will give it another shot within the next few months and hopefully I can update with a 5...

First time I went to a place like the Nighthawk, so I was pretty nervous while I was waiting for my friends to stop by.

The staff didn't believe I was over 21 years old despite showing my State ID (granted I had semi-long hair during my visit) - HOWEVER, people in general do tend to be surprised that I am 22 (23 years old now as my birthday was on November 7) because I usually appear younger compared to my actual age. Certainly, it is not the fault of staff because my State ID and my student ID pictures were taken when I was a freshman in college.

I was a little bit miffed when staff did not believe my age (as I do not lie when it comes to identification), but hey, it is nice to know that the business takes an active approach in preventing people under 21 from drinking. The misunderstanding was cleared when two of my friends arrived, so no big deal. I'm not particularly the type to hold a grudge over such a thing as people often tend to believe that I am much younger than I actually am.

I'll stop by the Nighthawk again if I ever have the time! The staff is nice and friendly during and after the misunderstanding as well!

Edit: I added another sentence to the second to last paragraph. And again I would like to say that my overall experience at the establishment has been a very...

I had been meaning to try this place since it open. I was fortunate enough to have some coffee on election day, and it was very good. Finally went to the bar, and though I usually like straight bourbon, I wanted to try their craft cocktails. I started with the nighthawk manhattan. It was good, the coffee infused carpano antica was a fine compliment to the buffalo trace bourbon. I next tried the autumn martinez. It was actually my favorite drink of the night. It was very good. I sat at the bar, and watched the mixologist craft my cocktails. At first I thought, man they take a long time. But they do that, because they put their heart and soul into making your cocktail, and it shows. The mixologists were great, they have great personalities and will engage you in conversation, besides crafting awesome cocktails. They do not serve any food, but the bar nuts are very good. I think the owner seasons the nuts, and they do a good job. I was pleasantly surprised to see they take credit cards, most of the new trendy places do not. I live close by, so this will become my neighborhood...

I've been wanting to check this place out in my "acting like a human after depression" exposure therapy, so when I saw they were doing comedy on a Saturday night when I was free I was like aight lets go. I anticipated much but not seeing an old friend who I haven't talked to in years for who really knows the reason but I don't think it was amicable. So I ran out a side door on the patio lmao. But then I went back in bc I didn't come all this way to be run out by someone who didn't notice I was there anyway. The point is, I really liked the vibes and music and kind bartenders (who played that Little Dragon song I love?) It was worth staying and risking a convo I wasn't ready for.

My friend and I came to this place on a whim and with some direction. I absolutely loved the atmosphere and was in awe of the graceful grunge of the place; the bar was pretty, the ceiling and lighting was beautiful. I would describe this place as vintage metal. The barista was very nice and helpful; she recommended a drink and even did her best to do some coffee art. It was very chill and quiet in the place. We didn't try any alcoholic drinks, but heard they were good! Prices weren't too bad, but a little on the higher end, but the craftsmanship and care, was worth it. Great place for a casual date, or just to hang out, or for a small get together.

I don't drink, so I look for establishments that accommodate in other ways, thought this would be one but.. What's the point of saying you serve coffee when you clearly don't >80% of the time. I've come 5 times now (enough to know I'm not welcome). Had coffee once (was a nice lady bartender). Learned the guy bartenders always say "we don't do coffee" and treat me like I'm dumb for asking- even though you have a big sign in front saying "coffee bar." You open at 5pm, if you don't serve coffee products just change your name and signage so people stop asking!
