KIDS and ADOLESCENT are NOT welcome! Please be aware that children are not welcome. I don't care what their website or any reviews say. Let me explain. We came in about 8:30pm no later than 8:40pm, we were told there was a wait for a table- ok, the place is busy. We were seated roughly 9:54pm. "Kids" are not allowed after 10pm. While "Kids" is only defined on the menu as 12 and under. We were seated, served, and finished our meal, then paid. I had a bar tab that HAD to be separate from the meal tab. I walked out to the patio to have a smoke right after dinner, while the "Kids" used the remainder of the game tokens and I finished my beer. My "Kids" were approached by the bouncer/security/doorman and told that they had to leave. The "Kids" came and told me about how a grown man approached them and told them to leave with a very stern attitude. Keep in mind that other "Kids" ages from 5 to 15 years old are all over the place. Still seated at tables, playing games, running around. It was painfully obvious that other children were still in the establishment- you could hear and see them in any room of the building. I told the girls to go play games and if the man approached them again to come talk to me and not them. The girls went back in to play games and was immediately targeted by this bouncer/security/doorman. They told him to talk to the parents and told them where we were on the patio. Mr Doorman comes slinging the main door open with a fluffed chest telling me that "Kids" have to leave right now- no exceptions- no excuses. This door is directly next to the patio where we were standing. I explained to him very directly that we were seated less than 10 minutes before 10pm and had been there since at least 8:40pm. He responded sharply with, "We made an announcement". That "announcement" was inaudible to the dining area and seemed to have been made to the game rooms and bar area- I heard something but couldn't make it out. That announcement was made at 10:03pm and we hadn't even seen our waiter yet. He studderd repeatedly and said "Well, keep them with you at all times", then walked back inside with an obvious attitude- yanking the door open. At this point my wife, my daughter, my best friend's daughter and myself had just witnessed the attitude that the "Kids" described when approached by this bouncer/security/doorman- Our first experience and the "Kids" 3rd. My wife is pregnant and not impressed, the "Kids" are feeling awkward and unwelcome, they all walk out together, even though I told them have a good time, spend the tokens, and forget about what grumpy dude said, I'll handle it- they walked out. At this point, I'm no longer happy, I'm ready to get my money back for the tokens I didn't and couldn't use, even though they happily sold them to me, close my bar tab, leave and forget the place exists. So, I go to the bar and get the attention of the guy I opened my bar tab with, tell him I'm ready to cash out and make an attempt to turn the tokens in for credit. I then get informed that I can be given a voucher for the remaining tokens. I explained to him that my family was told to leave the establishment after having dinner and that we are unable to use the tokens and are not expecting to come back. He offered me the manager, the manager comes, goes on defensive about 35% through explaining what happened- never got details- nor did he ask for any. I then forced the details on him. He then said I could take the token refund issue up with the owner- I responded with- "Ok, who, when, and how do I contact?". He responded with, "We don't buy tokens back". I explained to him that the business had no problem seating me, serving me, and selling me tokens, however I'm not welcome to use them because of "Kids" being there immediately after finishing our meal that was happily served after "Kid" hours, while waiting almost if not at least an hour and a half for a table. This post will continue on another review- yeah it will be negative but will also include the positives. I don't want to be unreasonable but...
Read moreDifficult not to give this place 5 stars. It's an awesome place. And if you properly set your expectations then it probably deserves 5 stars. I was here mainly for pinball but we also had dinner. The food was excellent, I'd read good reviews and seen delicious looking photos but it still exceeded my expectations. I had wings which were HUGE. My wife had fish tacos which looked on point. Beer selection was great, not quite beer bar level but a fine selection. Negatives. I was there on a Friday night and while it wasn't packed it was VERY loud in there. Like concert loud. Ordering food was difficult. And when I asked for a beer list I was pointed to a tiny TV across the room. I had to go online and find the list since I didn't want to walk across the room and stand under a TV to look at the beer list. Both times I ordered a beer the server girl acted like she had never heard of the beer. Service was very slow. There clearly wasn't enough servers to handle the rush. And the music despite being LOUD was actually pretty good. It seems like they are catering to an older crowd. I'd say most people there were over 30. The games. I didn't play any of the video games but they the collection was eclectic and they looked to be in great shape. The pinball collection was great. I love oddball games from the 80s and early 90s and recbar has a great collection. There were issues on a few of the games I played which is understandable but was also part of the reason for going with 4 stars. They did have a tech working onside while I was there which is always good to see. And I think I only saw 1-2 games turned off. Prices were good too. Many were only 1 token. Location and parking was also a little strange. Drove right past and had to circle back, then wasn't sure where we could legally park. Overall great place and I...
Read moreWe have been to Rec Bar many times so when family from out of town were visiting, we thought this would be a fun place to go after a baseball game on a Wednesday evening. When we went in, the "hostess" was not very pleasant and never greeted us. She simply asked if we wanted a table, which I thought was a little weird. I told her we had a party of 11 and she said she would have to put us on the waitlist. I asked how long it would be and she said she didn't know, but we were the 1st people on the list. It was a little before 7:30 when we first entered.
We bought tokens and everyone played. After 30 minutes, still no update. I could hear a trivia game happening so I asked the "hostess" if we were going to have to wait until it was over to be seated. She was dismissive and very rude, all while she ate and talked to other employees at the hostess station. Again, she said she didn't know, but that the game was over around 9, which was not helpful at all, and who wants to wait around for 1.5hours?!?!? On a school night?!?!?! With great grandparents with us!!! That's why I asked about the wait time yo begin with. There was an entire section of seats that they said was for private parties only that they could have just sat us in if they cared to be accommodating. We asked to speak to the manager and when he came out, he was just as dismissive and rude. He didn't care if we left and went somewhere else at all or that his staff were rude and unprofessional. He was making excuses and brushing us off and acting like we were troubling him. I run a tour company and I teach college students so I will be sure to never recommend Rec Bar to anyone again. My household is a family of 6 and we frequently go out to eat with relatives and friends and it's a shame that we will NEVER spend...
