I had no idea this place existed until my coworkerâwho, judging by the way he ordered without even glancing at the menu, might as well have his name on a plaque hereâintroduced me to it. Walking in, I was immediately impressed. The dĂ©cor? Contemporary-modern, I think. Whatever it is, it works. Itâs stylish without trying too hard, the kind of balance that suggests someone put real thought into it. Now, if only the menu followed suitâŠ
Because the moment I opened it, I knew I was in trouble. A menu should be an invitation, not a homework assignment. Pages upon pages of optionsâeach dish having three or four variationsâleft me mentally exhausted before I even placed my order. A truly great restaurant knows its strengths and sticks to them. If you need a table of contents to navigate your own menu, youâre doing too much.
After a small eternity of decision-making, I went with the ceviche plate. And to my relief, it was a home run. I usually donât gamble on ceviche unless someone swears by it, but this time, I trusted my instinctsâand Iâm glad I did. Fresh, bright, well-balanced. A dish that knew exactly what it was supposed to be. If only the menu could take some notes.
Naturally, I made my usual bathroom check, and I have to give credit where itâs dueâspotless. And this was during peak hours, when restrooms often become an afterthought. Whatever system they have in place is working, and I respect that attention to detail.
Now, for my one real gripe: the music. It wasnât bad, but it was there. Loud enough that my business meeting started feeling like a shouting match. A restaurantâs background music should do just thatâstay in the background. If Iâm straining to hear the person across from me, itâs no longer ambiance, itâs interference.
Overall, thereâs real potential here. The food delivers, the space is inviting, and the cleanliness is commendable. But a streamlined menu and a slight volume adjustment would take this place from âgreatâ to âexceptional.â Iâll be backâafter a quick speed-reading course to prep...
Read moreThe adventure of hunting for great food in unusual places is an art. Diving through reviews of past diners, comparing notes from Yelp and Google and looking a menu pictures - you'd think we were researching a science project. However on occasion you have to take the risk, make split second decisions and all you have is a map and a place and a number and then you win the lottery and discover a place like Los Mariachis in a town called Glenpool which we had never known about until we passed right through it. We had almost resigned ourselves to a chain like Chick-Fil-A given the general scenery around Glenpool as we set off on a drive from Tulsa with a hunger only outdone by the cold outside. Los Mariachis is a one awesome place and if I were in Glenpool I'd be here every day for lunch. We sampled all kinds of tacos and I am not a taco lover but this was other wordly and this is no exaggeration. Little tacos each with its unique option and flavor - chicken, steak, tilapia, shrimp. The salsa was HOT as it should be. The place is well cared for and the staff were so nice and they made our day when they graciously offered one of us a birthday treat for dessert. Glenpool - you got what Dallas ain't. We hope to see you again soon on our journeys... Muchas Gracias por la comida y...
Read moreThis used to be a good place to enjoy a good meal. Unfortunately that is no longer true.
The last 2 times I have come here the service has been absolutely terrible. After being seated I was ignored for 10+ minute before getting my drink or order taken. It was also as if they did not know who was supposed to have the section I was in as during the course of my meal I had 4 different servers.
When the food was brought out I had to ask them each time for the tortillas that were supposed to come with it. This time I actually was given the tortillas, last time they never brought them.
Finally, when I was done with my food I was left sitting at the table waiting for my ticket for a long time, even after I had already stacked the plates and trash and set them to the edge of the table. Multiple servers walked by, looked at me and didn't even ask if I needed my ticket/if I needed anything, etc. When I double checked the charges at my bank I noticed that they put down a much bigger tip than I had written down both times.
As close as this restaurant is to my house, I have decided that I will drive farther away in order to get better service and not have to worry about my tips being changed after I leave the...
