Very unpleasant customer service from the owner . I ordered a sandwich and a matcha latte to stay. After I placed the order I was not given a receipt which I did not think was a big deal because I am a regular customer , I order the same food majority of the time . My order was brung out by a new employee and given to an another customer. I knew it was my order because the employee read the order out loud to him and then placed it in the bag . The customer seemed confused but took the sandwich anyway. I did not feel comfortable getting the sandwich back from the customer so I simply told the owner hey I think the guy left with my order . I also know it was my order because the guy ordered way after me at this point I was waiting a long time for my order . The owner was super unprofessional to his staff in front of myself and other customers by accusing the employee of not doing their job properly and other hurtful words I can tell the employee was nervous and scared. The owner then proceeded to tell me I was wrong and that what I’m telling him does not make sense . I replied I’m not sure what doesn’t make sense it seems like a honest mistake by the employee can you just redo my order . He then said you need to listen out for your order number next time I then replied you never handed me a receipt. At this point I was not given no apology. His tone was unacceptable especially when it was not my fault things like this happen , all he had to do was redo the order , apologize and move on. I finally got my order and again the owner never came to speak to me after the mix up he proceeded to take orders in a much nicer tone to other customers as if nothing happened as if I was invisible . Let’s start with the food—the Chicken and Waffles are a must-try, with the hot honey adding a delightful touch that elevates the dish to perfection. The OG French Toast is my personal favorite, a nostalgic and delicious choice every time. The Lafayette Sandwich brings back memories of classic bodega sandwiches but with a gourmet twist that leaves a lasting impression.

The seasonal apple cider is like a warm hug from grandma, comforting and full of flavor. And then there’s the coffee—oh, the coffee! From the Chai to the Mocha Latte, each sip is smooth and expertly crafted, making it a highlight of every visit.

What truly sets Cafe Lafayette apart is the warm and welcoming atmosphere created by Pat and the staff. Their genuine hospitality makes every customer feel like a cherished guest, adding an extra layer of enjoyment to the dining experience. Not to mention, the playlist is fire!!! Every single time!!

Cafe Lafayette is an absolute standout in Jersey City—an inviting spot that perfectly blends cozy vibes with a vibrant, modern menu. I recently stopped by and tried a variety of items, and every single bite (and sip) impressed me.

I started with a banana blueberry smoothie that was incredibly fresh and energizing, the kind of drink that makes you feel instantly healthier. I followed it up with a matcha latte that was smooth, earthy, and perfectly balanced—not too sweet, just the way I like it.

The Lafayette tacos were next, and wow—flavor-packed and fresh, with a delightful twist that sets them apart from your average taco. The bulgogi dish was tender and savory, bursting with authentic flavor that really hit the spot.
