We were very excited to try The Roxy because we've been going to Corto for years and have had amazing food every visit! Unfortunately, The Roxy didn't wow us as much as Corto.
I will start off with the bad and say our fish plate was full of bones and dangerous to eat. It seems like a pretty amateur mistake to not properly debone fish, especially for the price and sophistication of the place. We were also not offered to get it remade or removed from the bill.
The Chicken was very good but a little dry. The sauce definitely helped but the sauce was thick — like mashed potato consistency and not liquid. It would have been nice for the chicken to be a little juicier. The flavors were good though. The rice was kinda meh and crunchy and didn't have any garlic flavor as advertised.
There also wasn't a full vegetarian entree option which was disappointing because we don't always want to eat meat or fish. Also almost every item had soy in it which I completely understand but I do have a soy intolerance so I was limited to the chicken on this menu as I was told nothing could be modified at the time. Even the butter with the bread appetizer was miso butter! The waitress did not understand why I just wanted regular butter with the bread and thought I was crazy.
The stars of the menu were the asparagus and Hollandaise and the scallion potato pancake. We could have eaten 10 plates! Very delicious and full of rich flavor.
The desserts were also fantastic and made our meal better! I would go just for dessert and wine to be honest.
Overall, since the menu changes we would go back and try new things but would avoid any fish. This is a great low-key...
Read moreWe first discovered The Roxy while looking for a new date night spot a few months ago. After our first experience with the comfortable and modern space, excellent staff, thoughtful cocktails, and a wide variety of excellent menu options and desserts - we decided to hold a moderate-sized post-wedding dinner here - and absolutely loved it!
We had a perfect semi-private area in the rear of the dining room with enough space for our 16+ person party (including children). Everything was planned perfectly with the help of the owner, and included discussion with nearly all kitchen staff during a sit-down meeting. We had very quick correspondence throughout, and were given quite a lot of freedom with planning the prix-fixe menu options.
Our menu (pictured) was phenomenal and priced very reasonably. As everything here depends on seasonal availability of fresh ingredients - I hope you’re lucky enough to try the prawns, and tiger steak!
As far as dessert, all of them are created in house. While my personal favorite was the calamansi tart, the crunchy salted caramel ice cream seemed to be the big hit with our families.
We’ll be back as often as possible for the pandan cocktails and delicious desserts, too!
Thank you for helping us plan something...
Read moreThe Roxy is definitely our new neighborhood haunt! We checked it out to celebrate my birthday eve. My husband started with the Light Rail Manhattan, which was a refined spin on the classic, and I the Greene Street, which was a light, refreshing, and delicious cocktail that definitely showcased the matcha syrup well. We also tried the Autumn Bee, which is strong and equally as good.
We then had the Mushroom Cavatelli, which tastes as beautiful as its presentation. The pasta was perfectly al dente; the mushrooms meaty and flavorful; the white miso delicate but present; the fried shallots crispy and well-seasoned.
The Octopus also shined. It was a nicely sized portion for the price, and cooked tender. Beans and Okra had a nice bite to them. Sauce was worth soaking up with each forkful of octopus.
Definitely worth trying! We will be coming again for happy hour drinks & apps and dinner...
