Lady G Empanadas — Restaurant in Jersey City

I attempted to place an order over the phone and was told all phone orders had to paid with a credit card or debit card. Totally understandable I chose to go in and place my order because I don’t like giving out that information over the phone. I placed my order and was told it would be a 30 minute wait to be fair I was fine with that but I ended up waiting 1 hour and 40 minutes. I ordered a fried chicken dinner (they only have fried wings), a whiting fish and shrimp combo, oxtail empanada and a steak and shrimp dinner which should have been cooked medium well but was medium rare if that. I’m still not sure what I waited 1 hour and 40 minutes for. The woman in the front repeatedly yelled to the kitchen for my steak to be cooked medium well and the receipt said it as well. I called to inform them the woman was very apologetic and offered to send me a new meal but that didn’t work because I drove 40 minutes to get my meals. Horrible experience food was mid oxtail empanada was great. This place seems very unorganized they don’t pay attention and everyone is running around like chickens with their head cut off. A loud woman came out to the front using profanity yelling while my child and I waited. A man continuously nodded in and out in the waiting area. The woman apologized for him and offered me a free slushie for the inappropriateness. I spent over $100 for a meal all to be disappointed. The experience and the food. Oxtail empanada is great, fish and shrimp fantastic. Everything else very mid. I don’t see myself ordering again. The woman offered me to sit in the restaurant area while I waited not particularly my crowd and I had my child with me. The restaurant area is beautiful with a lovely bar but I highly doubt I’ll ever return again I will stick to getting an empanada from the festivals. Let’s not forget parking is HORRIBLE!!!! Ordered through Uber Eats and it was for (3) of the Fish/Shrimp combo for “Fish Fry Friday” and it said we can choose 3 sides: I chose Mac & Cheese, Yams and Fries for sides. When I received the order and opened it up, it wasn't what I ordered as you can see in the photo. No Mac & Cheese and Yams for either of the 3 meals. Mind you one order was supposed to have sweet potato fries. I called and told them the issue, the lady on the phone who said she was the manager, stated that the combo is an error and it only came with one side not three, but its on Uber Eats??? (shown in photo) She said they didn't “upgrade their system” (menu) but that is unfair to say to a customer that doesn't know that when ordering through Uber Eats. Since I didn't know when ordering, as a customer I should've been granted what I see on Uber Eats which was 3 sides. Customers shouldn't have to deal with the consequences of an incorrect order due to the responsibility of a restaurant not “upgrading their system”(menu) on Uber Eats. In addition, the restaurant printed not one but two receipts of the Uber Eats order. So they see that it's called for 3 sides and not one through Uber Eats.This also show that this is what customers see on Uber Eats. So as a customer that ordered, this is what I should've been given. However, the restaurant didn't even offer to solve the issue. Just took our $84. Terrible customer service. They are wrong for this in which I wont support this restaurant again or even in the future.

Wow, what a surprise when I walked into this restaurant at 269 Ocean Ave in Jersey City. In it's quite location built from her food truck, Lady G's restaurant makes you feel very much at home. It's not a big place, but it was packed with people eating some good home cook food while music played in the background. The atmosphere was lively, showing everyone was enjoying themselves. They do have a very nice bar with a large selection of drinks, but I had wine.

The menu isn't overcrowded with selections, which made it easy to choose from. I had fried chicken and cheese, and chicken and sausages empanadas. When I opened it, the juice fell into the plate, which made it even better. Plus, it was packed with meat and flavor. In addition, there is buffalo chicken, lump crab and shrimp, jerk chicken, and oxtails, to name a few. RJ, my review partner, said: Wow, both were excellent. Jerk Chicken with black bean, you could taste every element in these empanadas, it's like a whole dinner. Very moist, not dried out perfectly balanced seasoning loved it. Steak & cheese was again delicious, perfectly seasoned. The crust of the empanadas is so light and crispy, not that usual soft and thick casing.

I'm giving Lady G Empanada Restaurant 10 out of 10. If you want some good empanadas, then stop by and be prepared. Oh, wait until you see the Crabs. Oh, I forgot to mention there's an outdoor patio in the back.
