O'LaLa Empanadas — Restaurant in Jersey City

I just moved into my apartment in this hood and tried O’Lala’s Empanada’s soon after I got settled in, and it was incredibly delicious food! I had Cuban sandwiches which were super good, the yellow rice and pintos were homemade and also very tasty! I ordered a random sampling of empanadas, everyone of them was unique and amazing and rocked! My favorite might be the guava and cheese empanada sprinkled with powdered sugar, the best! My compliments to the chef! While I was waiting for him to prepare my food, I had the pleasure of chatting up Iris, the young lady who took my order, who was friendly and charming and told me many interesting things about my new hood, great fun! Keep up the great food kids, it was all delicious! I highly recommend O’Lala’s and I’ll be back soon! Thank you for great food and great convo!!

I add this review after my SECOND and THIRD visit to O’Lala’s and again, the food was amazing! I love my new hood and I will definitely become a regular at O’Lala’s! The quality and flavor was consistent and delicious! I have not seen Iris again but the other staff were also friendly and polite! Keep up the great food! I’ll see y’all again soon! Thank you again!

Sadly, I am leaving Jersey City after a year and I will greatly miss O’LaLa Empanadas on Communipaw Avenue! It has become my “go to” restaurant for empanadas, pastelon, rice and beans, Cuban sandwiches, plaintains, etc.! “I can’t even re-sell this”

I placed an order on the phone and specified that it would be for 2 adults & 2 children… the receptionist said* they had a COMBO that could feed 4… I placed the order for the GRAN CHAUFA WITH CHICKEN with 2 empanadas, and a side of fries if you want to call that a side for 30$…My boyfriend walks into the place to pay for the order and when he brings it back to my surprise the GRAND COMBO was the size of a Chinese food order…… enough to feed ONE….the fries must of been picked ONE BY ONE… INFLATION IS REAL but the portion was disgusting, the owner is catty, it could of went worse…. She insisted if I wanted one more fry and a tablespoon more of rice I must pay extra to feed 2 leaving 2 OTHERS WITHOUT A PORTION…… then proceeded to telling me “she couldn’t even resell because I don’t know what you did to it” ….. and my response was “ you can’t resell it I CANT FEED 4 I guess we both lose” then she goes on to saying “it’s not the same” NEXT TIME GIVE BETTER PORTIONS, I should not be fighting for my refund… TAKE YOUR FOOD AND GIVE ME MY MONEY! I ordered from this restaurant through GrubHub for the first time tonight. After waiting 90 minutes to get my order I was disappointed to find that the food was barely warm and they didn't include multiple items I ordered. I tried calling right away when I realized there was food missing and they had some kind of answering service with no live person to talk to. Then I called GrubHub and was put on hold for 25+ minutes after which they promptly issued a refund. What I did get was Arroz Chaufa (chicken was overcooked, rice flavor simply was not that good), Tostones (delicious), and Brownie Empanada (mediocre - the center filling was more like chocolate sauce than a brownie). I would say maybe ordering in the restaurant would be a better idea but Iooked up where it is and it's a sketch part of town. I won't be trying this place again. I'm sad because I love empanadas and I thought I found a good spot in Jersey City to...
