Honey Birds Bakery — Restaurant in Johns Creek

If you're looking for an Eastern European style Bakery, this is a great place to go. It is mostly a shop for sweet treats and coffee.

The first thing you see when you come up to this small store in a out of the way strip mall in Alpharetta is wedding cakes that are decorated in the window as examples of what they can do for your special occasion.

The restaurant is light and airy and decorated in upscale style. The tables are far enough apart that you don't feel cramped as you visit over coffee and cakes with your friends.

Something you must know about the Eastern European style of cakes and treats is that they are not overly sweet like so many cakes you will buy here in the us. While they are sweet and very tasty, they will not leave you with an over sugary feel in your mouth. You can actually taste something other than sugar, which makes these confectionery treats more enjoyable for the flavors they bring.

There's also a good selection of teas and at lunchtime there is a small menu of some sandwiches that you can eat.

I can only speak the small treats that We sampled. There is a selection of cakes that can only be purchased by the whole 6" cake. Unless you're taking it home, you probably won't be purchasing the whole cake to have as treat for a dine in coffee outting. It is a shame, though, because some of the flavor combinations available in the full-size cakes are not available in the individual bite-size treats.

Having said that, there are plenty of individually sized tasty treats to try. We tried the honey cake and the mousse dessert.

Mousse dessert: it is a very light and creamy mousse. It's much lighter than the traditional French style chocolate mousse. The fruit flavor is accented by a fruit gelée that complements the mousse flavor. The base is a thin shortbread or cake and a light layer of toasted coconut flakes. The flavor is light, not too sweet, so you enjoy the fruit flavor and not be too filled. A nice light treat to compliment your afternoon tea.

Traditional Honey cake bite: If you've never tried a honey cake, this is a traditional multi-layer cake that is made with loads of honey intermixed when sweetened sour cream layers. Usually, 8 layers of light and dark, that is a feast for the eyes as well as for your pallet. Traditionally covered in honey cake crumbs, the layers are only exposed when you cut it. Again, this is not so sweet that they won't leave you with heaviness, and it makes a great compliment for your afternoon...
