Today is my birthday, so I splurge and treat myself to a good meal, and man, did I pick a great place.
I had: Salad, standard house, but good none the less. Miso Soup, a richer soup version than you get at most places, with the darker more flavorful seaweed bits in it. Fried monk fish cooked to absolute perfection. Crispy outside not obstructing the delicate flavor of the tender, moist meat inside. Bluefin tuna belly hand roll a bit of an acquired taste I suppose. bluefin is rather extravagant, and it's stronger and less fish tasting than any other tuna I have ever had. perfectly paired with the right amount of rice, greens, and seaweed, this was a fantastic addition to my meal. Sweet potato chips, made fresh this morning, crispy chips, just the right amount of salt to balance the sweetness of the potato. Fried rice, just a small bit, but amazingly cooked rice fried with vegetables and chicken, more like what you'd make at home than what you usually find in restaurants. Donkatsu, this thin pork cutlet breaded and fried served with a house made sauce that is absolutely devine. The sauce has a gentle sweetness that marrys the salt in the cutlet's breading for a perfect balance to your meal. I had mine with steamed rice, again perfectly cooked. Salmon skin roll, I haven't had a roll this amazing in the details probably ever. The rice was perfect texture, not too sweet, just the right amount of vinegar. the salmon skin was without a single scale, and perfectly prepared. The house made spicy mayo and eel sauce were a perfect pairing for the roll. Baked Black Cod topped with Mozzarella. this was a new dish for me. I can't ever remember having black cod, but I can state without a doubt that it is going to become a regular part of my diet. This was one of the most tender oven baked pieces of fish I have ever had. The flavor is absolutely amazing, it's a buttery fish with a melt in your mouth texture.
There is not a single thing I can say in the negative for this restaurant. The dining area is small and intimate, a beautiful calming feel to the design and decor. The food was absolute heaven. This restaurant is a thirty minute drive from my home, but is absolutely worth the travel. It is a commute for a great dinner I will be...

Showed up 5 minutes early, when I walked in no one acknowledged me. That’s fine, I was early so I sat on the couch next to the door to wait. Three tables out of ten available were occupied in the restaurant and all either had food or were finished eating. One person at the sushi bar and one person picking up a Togo order as well. The person with the Togo order received his order and they apologized for the wait. As he left two young ladies walked in and were greeted immediately and offered a table by the server who was attending to her tables. Another server was standing at the back computer by the Togo orders the entire time staring out at the tables, not really doing anything. I walked to her and she greeted me, I told her I had a Togo order for our name and she stated “oh I canceled that.” I responded with “what? Why?” She proceeded to get a tablet and “swear she cancelled it”. I asked why again. Her response was “we’re too busy, only two servers and one chef.” Three current tables and one new table, four tables total, and two servers and one chef can’t handle that? As I said, the three previous tables either had food or had already eaten. To make matters worse I watched a guy leave with a Togo order while I was waiting! And there was another Togo order ready for pickup right in from of me! If they were so busy why was this server just standing at a computer and not helping? Why was our order Togo order cancelled when others were allowed? No phone call to let us know so we don’t drive there, we hadn’t even received an email that it was cancelled. My assumption is that it wasn’t cancelled until I arrived they just didn’t want to make it for whatever reason. This is terrible hospitality and service. This was our first experience and we were very much looking forward to it. We will not be back and we will definitely warn people to stay...
Read moreI really wanted to give this place five stars, because the customer service and effort put into their dishes was impeccable. I'll start with the good points first. The waitress and sushi chef were friendly and I could tell they put their heart into their work. The ingredients were fresh and the dishes were visually appealing. The restaurant was clean and comfortable. Now, for the things that could have been better. Even though the lettuce in the salad was perfectly fresh and crispy the dressing on top had an overwhelming amount of bitter orange zest. I could barely taste the ginger flavor through the zest. The miso soup had very good flavor, but it was slightly too salty which took away from the taste of miso. The sushi rice was also a hairline too sour. I know that they use vinegar for this, but it seemed that they were too heavy handed with it when I ate here. I ordered sashimi over rice, and it did not come with white radishes. I requested them, but received a small ball of soggy radishes. The eel in the eel bowl had good flavor and the edges were good, but the middle was slightly undercooked and had this rubbery gummy texture. The music playing also did not match the overall style of the restaurant. I think it was possibly something from the 80's? I think changing it to something more modern or Japanese would improve the overall feel. In conclusion, the restaurant and food were good, but I think they would benefit from having a professional come in to sample their dishes to make small changes to the menu. I would be willing to come back here again to see if they have made some...
