The beignettes were outstanding took me back forty two years. I would eat here again. The coffee was, my opinion only, ridiculous. We ordered two classic au lait and an order of classic beignettes. Advertised as correctly constructed with drip coffee ( should be a press for 4.50 ) and steamed milk. We were served lattes with shots of chicory coffee 🤔. Compelling recipe. Undrinkable if you know good espresso and a good pressed New Orleans au lait with French roasted chicory coffee. I would certainly patronize the culinary side. I will bring my own au lait and get beignettes next time. Nine bucks? Back in the 1900s when I was a young barman we smoked weed and understood that a nine bar commercial espresso machine ain't a drip or press. Hard to tell what goes forward these days. The staff was attentive, professional and possibly capable of killing a rush. The sandwiches produced for another table were a server's dream in gardeManger. Really impressed with the cook. Barman was a roaster who said they knew the difference between chicory and coffee. Maybe a decision over their paygrade? I like those young folk. If I could make them a coffee at my shack they might up their game. The barman DOES not want to go head to head against for rent money with their expensive machine against my aeropress and manual frother in cappucino. So the likelihood of my love authorizing any more of that coffee is slim to famished. She will send me back for food. Try the coffee. You might enjoy it....
Read moreWe've never had beignets before, so this was our first experience. As you can see in the photos, we ordered the 3 beignet sampler plate, coffee w/ chicory, and almond latte. What follows is our first impression.
Beignets: classic- somewhat like a funnel cake 🎂, only square and puffy.
Chorro- much like a chorro you would get at Sam's, Dollywood, or a Mexican restaurant - only in beignet style.
Chocolate sauce - this was our favorite. If you love 🍫, then you should just get these. I wish they gave you an extra cup of the sauce.
Drinks: Coffee with chicory - the coffee was about the strength of what you get in a house 🏡 coffee at Starbucks. I would prefer it to be about 2/3 this strength, but it was good and I drank it all.
Almond latte - my wife ordered it with only half the almond flavor and it was good.
Atmosphere: It was around 10 a.m. seating was about half full and got to about 3/4 before we left. I recall one drive thru order while we were there. Everything was peaceful, people seemed happy. A few students were studying on laptops, a 👪 came in. 🎶 was nice, older 50s style, which was pleasant.
Price: Two drinks and the beignet sampler plate we shared was about $12. That's a bit high for my budget, but 💰 aside, I would come back ( though not as often due to affordability).
Conclusion: I would recommend you stop by and try it. The owner is there, and he and the employees seem happy...
Read moreThis establishment feels great from the moment you walk in! The employees all seem very kind, and to enjoy their jobs. The plants add a very loving, personal touch to an environment that already makes you feel so comfortable. The service is always great, and I have never ordered anything I didn’t absolutely love. (I would eat tacos every day of my life)
Also, it’s very obvious the management cares about the safety of their employees due to extended drive thru months, and requesting masks still be worn in the business until eating. Giving the employees the right to hold the customers accountable for their safety, and the safety of the other patrons... is admirable. I’m so glad this beautiful little business is thriving, in a year that has cut down so many. What a blessing this adorable little building has brought to Johnson City. Make this your new daily spot, you won’t regret it.
Blessings to all, wear your mask,...
