It is with great sadness that I write this review of this Johnson City institution. The last time I ate here, which was several years ago, it was pretty bad - food was substandard and service was pretty much non-existent. My husband suggested that we try Firehouse again since once upon a time it was one of my favorite restaurants. We were seated quickly by a very pleasant hostess and pretty much from the minute our server walked up, I knew service was going to be bad! He was unsmiling and seemed to wish he was any place but where he was. It took a while to get our drinks and the ice in my soda was melting. When our food arrived, mine was cold - not lukewarm, but cold. My husband said his was just barely lukewarm, but he refuses to send his food back. Our server was nowhere to be found and after a few minutes of trying to get someone's attention, I finally walked back towards the kitchen and told a very distracted young woman of my issue. Instead of her resolving the problem, she left me standing to go find our server I presume since a few minutes later he showed up at our table to tell me, "so, what is wrong ?" And when I told him his reply was, "umm, okay, we will reheat it - oh, not reheat, but fix you a new plate." A couple of minutes after he left with my food, a woman, that I think was a manger, came to our table and said "we are fixing you a new plate." By the time my food arrived, my husband had long finished his meal. There was no apology and just really a half-hearted effort to provide me a meal that was barely edible. I don't know what happened to Firehouse, but my husband and I decided that 2 bad experiences were 2 too many and we...
Read moreThe Firehouse never disappoints. If you haven't visited, then you need to. Upon your arrival, you will be instantly charmed by this renovated "firehouse".
My husband introduced me to this place 23 years ago. It's conveniently located near ETSU and minutes away from Johnson City Medical Center Hospital.
I can honestly say that it hasn't changed at all since my first visit. It's clean and cozy. The atmosphere is rich with nostalgia. My boys are captivated by the antique fire engine, housed in the front entry.
Of course, the boys are big fans of the food, too. We all are. Think about it, how many places come to mind where EVERYONE IN YOUR FAMILY ARE HAPPY TO EAT?
My favorite is the chargrilled barbeque chicken. If your a sandwich kind-of-gal (or guy), then order the Firehouse Club. The food is always fresh and delicious. The portions are generous and the price is reasonable for the quality of both the food and hospitality you receive.
The Firehouse is one of the few restaurants in JC that I have personally witnessed employees attesting to love their jobs. It definitely shows.
Carry out is always available. And, if you're interested in catering, Felicia is more than happy to help you. My husband will tell you The Firehouse gift cards are great for just about any occasion, but especially FATHER'S DAY, BIRTHDAYS, HOLIDAYS... You get...
Read moreWent here for lunch while on a trip and I was very happy with the food. The kids grilled cheese was cooked perfectly - sometimes that's hit or miss at restaurants. The brisket was delicious and tender. The pulled pork sandwich was great! The fries - you have to get them. Their salads were the perfect cold temperature (some restaurants are room temp with cold dressing & gross, but not here). Their house made dressings are also very good. They have the best ranch dressing! The only downside side was the host. I'm in my 3rd trimester and have an obviously large belly. The host first brought us to a booth in the corner that you have to squeeze behind another booth to get into. I tried to sit on the more open side closer to the walkway, but the table was right on my belly. I couldn't even face the table. I had to awkwardly ask to be sat at an actual table and felt really embarrassed. Then he had to go tell someone and figure out where to put us, even though there were 3 open non-booth tables. It just started the meal off on a down note where I just felt bad and... embarrassed. Our server was very nice, though! The wait staff seem to help each other, which is a really pleasant trait in the service industry. You don't always see...
