All the stars for this fab restaurant! Doing brekkie right. I'm not gonna lie, coming from New Jersey, I had expectations that my brekkie in Tennessee would be served up with a friendly southern smile from a lady named Rosie with big hair and would involve grits. So, color-me-surprised to discover, upon entering , that we had to stand in a line to order from an adorable young hip dude who called out "Frodo Bagginsssss" to the kitchen with regard to our order (I still don't know the dish to which he was referring). We also found it really fun that we had to answer the question of the month: "which animal we could defeat in a fight" in order to have them call out when our food was ready. We chose a Wild Tibetan Dog. It so fun to hear others' chosen defeated animals, such as chicken, hamster, three pound chihuahua, and our fave: T-Rex.
So clearly the vibes are super fun. The atmosphere is also fab to match. The place felt enormous, with high ceilings inside, and plentiful seating outside. Despite the crowd of people, I never felt annoyed, as I usually do in crowded places, to which I attribute this vibe to the layout of the place, including large windows, with counter seating looking out onto the patio, which is where we chose to sit.
Now for the important part: the food. Overall delish! My daughter and I both got the Retro plate. My first impression was surprise at how little food was actually on the plate. One singular over-easy egg and one singular biscuit with gravy (these are usually expected in pairs). Two small lumps of hash brown and 2 strips of bacon. The truth is though, if there had been more food I would not have been able to finish, or I just woulda added on unnecessary bulk to my backside. The one singular biscuit was amazing and the gravy had a hint of spice. My daughter also enjoyed her biscuit (hers with jam). She also proclaimed that the bacon was "perfect." The only true disappointment were the hash browns. They were fine, but I guess I expected more. The spouse is vegan, so he chose the hash browns and fried green tomatoes, and he was the most surprised at how little food he got, particularly since the price was on the high-ish side.
Also important to note is the coffee. We got the drip which I found to be amazingly delish! I tried the maple flavored (OMG) and the dark bark. Both really great! In the end, I gave all the stars, because despite whatever minor shortcomings, we loved this place and would come back over and over again if given the chance! There are so many yummy looking options on the menu, and vibes...
Read moreI want to preface this by saying that I have not eaten here yet, but my husband, Nick, and I have been delivering food from Maple Street as DoorDash drivers for 6 months now. This place is incredible! Not only is every dish that comes out of that kitchen BEAUTIFUL and picture perfect, but the employees are the most professional, hard working, friendly people out of any restaurant or store my husband and I deliver for. We know more employees at Maple Street by name than any other store as well, and that really just shows their friendliness, because my husband and I both have social anxiety, yet Nicole, Anthony, and Erin have all made us feel so welcome - even as just delivery drivers (a lot of restaurant employees are not very friendly to delivery drivers). We have basically experienced this restaurant work as outsiders, and everything we have seen and experienced has only increased our need to come in as customers! We will absolutely keep coming back to Maple Street, for the food, the atmosphere, and the employees that have started to feel more like friends. Also, even when other delivery drivers start pestering the employees because their order is taking a minute and the entire building is filled with customers and the employees are running around, sweating, and trying very hard to keep everything in motion during the Sunday morning rush, they are STILL professional and kind. Thats why we love it here!
UPDATE: We finally got ourselves together and ate at Maple Street. Let me tell you, that place has THE most incredible breakfast food we've ever eaten! I cannot stress enough how delicious this food is and you should absolutely go if you're even kind of thinking about it. The Biscuit French Toast comes with this vanilla sauce underneath and perfect cut strawberries and whipped cream on top. Literally to die for. My husband loves the Retro Plate. The hash browns are so flavorful and the kick to the biscuit gravy is just perfect. Eat at Maple Street. There's just no possible way you...
Read moreWhen you walk in, there is a paper menu in a frame on the wall. Very small an hard to read. You kinda have to get out of line to go over and read. Get a bigger, eye catching, and larger font menu. Similar to Moe's Southwest Grill.
The design of the establishment is pretentious so that they can charge more for the food. The quality of the food is decent but the price increase is few factors more than I would do. For example the bacon they buy may cost $0.05-$0.10 more per ounce but since it is higher quality they will raise the price $1.00 per ounce. This is just an example. I have no idea what they pay. I prefer the principle of charging more for higher quality but lean more on the fact that your reputation will be better because of the quality.
Since we are talking about bacon. We ordered bacon and they said 4 slices. An common person will think of 4 slices of bacon that you would buy from the grocery store but this place serves you 2 slices that are cut into 4 short pieces of bacon. I thought it was sly.
My dad ordered a plain waffle. It came out cold. He put butter on it and it did not melt. He seemed to believe that they are actually frozen waffles that they warm up instead of making them fresh from batter. The plain waffle was $8. High markup for batter.
I bought the chicken club biscuit. It was good except the tomato. It was leaning towards a white color instead of red.
We spent $25 for one plain waffle, "4 slices of bacon" which was actually 2 slices, 2 eggs, and a chicken club biscuit. They didn't bring the food to us like a normal restaurant and they didn't clean up the dishes. We had to do it. Very pretentious business model. But clearly there is a crowd for this...
