Ok... The reviews vary wildly, so after having a conversation with the newish owner, let's set a few things straight.
Open Doors is great. If there's a line out the door and/or down the street (drive-thru) then service will be slow. They are a coffee shop that serves food, not a restaurant. If you're wanting to get something to eat that requires prep, ask if they have a backlog; it can save both you and the shop some trouble.
The current owner inherited much of the menu, the drive-thru, and several other quirks. They have a small kitchen and little refrigeration. Is that their fault? Kinda, I guess. They could just rebrand the whole thing and get rid of all that. But then everyone would claim they tossed out all the stuff people loved. Who knew running a small business could be hard...
At the end of the day, the place is great. Super friendly staff, community-oriented atmosphere, and great coffee at a highly competitive price. It's handicap accessible, has a nice deck, plenty of seating, and epic cinnamon rolls. 100%...
Read moreQuaint coffee shop and cafe. It's great for a date, camping out to study, or catching up with friends. The cafe scene really slacks in Johnson City, but luckily this is one of the few local spots that has stayed in great business. The town really needs more places like this. Things you should know: I. PARKING There's plenty of spaces available for a weekday morning. The drive through is very convenient for a quick run through too. II. SERVICE No complaints. Friendly and informative. III. QUALITY Great! Surprisingly cheap. I got a large cold brew with a couple add-ins (milk of choice and syrup) for only $3-something. Whereas at other locally owned businesses back home it would have been $6-something. Honestly, even franchises like Starbucks cost a lot more than here, but it's not like you get what you pay for. The coffee here is good--my picky palate will vouch for it. IV. CAPACITY I had no issues finding...
Read moreThis place is awesome. Our first visit here. It's very comfortable--like being in someone's house. The staff and service are top-notch. We arrived a little after 11. They stop serving breakfast at 11 on weekdays ( at 1pm on weekends). They graciously checked to see if they could still serve breakfast. I'm so glad they could! The biscuits were large and fluffy. Sausage gravy was excellent. Eggs scrambled perfectly. Fried potatoes were fresh and done perfectly. I also had the iced Mocha Latte. It was yummy. I hope to go back for the Belgian Waffles. They looked amazing! They have several breakfast options, including vegetarian options. Lunch items looked great, too, with several specials available. It's a busy place and not a lot of tables. There are picnic tables outside if the weather permits. Patience will make for a better experience for...
