I give this place a 2 star as the food is good enough. Please consider bypassing this place and go directly to Cafe 111. It is much better, the service is top notch and the amount of food and superior quality is worth the very small difference in price. Wok and Hibachi has cut their lunch portions down but has increased their prices and are almost the same price as Cafe 111. Yet no where as tasty as Cafe 111. Wok and Hibachi has gone down hill in regards to their service. The owner must be either desperate for money or just to greedy to hire help as she works the check out and takes the call in orders herself. This would be no problem except she has became a person who takes issue with people placing call in orders for carry out or delivery. My past 2 times have been met with the lady having a problem with 17 take out orders placed by myself and co workers. She stressed more than once 1 item ordered was on the dinner menu at dinner menu price. Although we are educated people with reading comprehension and salaries to pay the $50 plus total for 2 of those mentioned item she continued during the ordering to go back to that order and emphasize the cost. When I picked up the $200 + order she told me not to call the order in again to use the on line menu. Funny, as she received 17 patrons in 1 order and didn't have to even clean the table. My second time having an issue was today when I placed an online order as she previously suggested I do. This time it was for 2 meals. After I submitted my order for delivery my phone rang and this lady telling me her driver ( keep in mind she does not own the delivery service- let alone ow the driver) would have a problem finding my building and she could not deliver the food. Did I want to pick the food up or cancel the order. I suggested she provide my number to the delivery driver and if "her driver" had any problems he could call and I could easily direct him.. She then hesitated as my logical suggestion must gave been over her level of comprehension. She stated no but you can come get your order or cancel it. I then reminded her of my previous issue with her and informed her to cancel the order. I then informed her I would no longer continue as a customer as I would use Cafe 111 whenever coworkers wanted Asian food and as for myself would no longer be a customer. She stated ok. I ended the call and she instantly called back and asked where I wanted the food delivered to.I informed her the order was canceled it did not matter where it was to be delivered. I again reminded her after being a customer for 20 years, I will not bother her with food orders again. I understand we all have off days but when you get this type of service 2 times in a row it makes me question if she is tired and over being kind to people and just is greedy and continues to want money. If that's the case she should either hire someone to allow herself to step back from customer contact or close the restaurant down and stay home. She wouldn't be missed as Johnson City can always go to Cafe 111 where there is excellent service along with wonderful food that has not had a reduction in quantity for no more than 1 to 2 dollars more.. Wok and Habachi keep your pared down portions with your over priced food. I won't bother you again. ( almost $300 in business in 1 month. I guess you won't...
Read moreThe food was atrocious. I am personally convinced that every positive review was written by the restaurant staff. The yelp reviews and the website reviews are exactly the same. However the website does not allow customers to add a review. We have been traveling since 7 AM from New England and selected this place because of the favorable reviews. We were spooked by a nearly empty restaurant at 915pm but since it’s the holidays and it was late, my family went ahead and ate there. The wanton soup was good and the waiter was nice but everything else was bad. The food was salty and had far too much sauce that was a very odd combination of excess salt and fat too much sugar. Seven of us ordered the food and we all found it to be abysmal. Our children, including teenage boys, would not eat. We frequent Hibachi restaurants and this was the worst we have EVER had. The absolute worst. The shrimp had no flavor because it was overpowered by the salty and sugary sauce. The steak was also over cooked. Our kids didn’t enjoy their chicken dishes and our daughter, who is a pescatarian could not stomach the shrimp either. Further, when i asked for my check, I let the manager know that we were disappointed in the food quality. She instantly pointed to the good reviews online as proof that they are a good place to eat and quoted the reviews chapter and verse, sharing that she has been in business for a long time. That did not move us. Evidence of a bunch of uneaten plates that had been picked over in an attempt to find something decent demonstrated our dissatisfaction with the very poor food. While the manager gave us a 20% discount for the food we did not eat, my issue is not paying. It is the obvious and blatant false advertising online. The manager then offered to sell us something different. We declined. We left and found another place to eat with much better food. We will never eat at this place when we travel through again. This food is horrible and I do not suggest any person spend...
Read moreWas planning on going to the Hibachi Grill and Buffet but Google actually led me to here..I may have clicked the wrong directions to be honest. Oh well...it was the best mistake. The waiter was a bit dull in personality but made sure to come check on me multiple times. Maybe new dunno it was lunch and in an Oriental restaurant lunch for the most part is a slow time..they thrive on dinner time and on. Even with the personality of the waiter the actual owner is a very sweet woman and personable..when I first came in she herself was gonna seat me but due to me not seeing a buffet I retracted. I went back to my car and looked online, then saw the rating of 4.6stars I decided to try them. I went back inside and told the woman ok I've decided to stay she smiled and asked what changed my mind and what restaurant i was looking for which i answered she even told me where that place was and I asked well for the price are you better or them. She said she cannot judge them for quality nor price. (This made my choice..she was honest and did not down another restaurant or upsell hers that shows confidence in her business)...overheard her talking to a regular about the hours she herself put in and trust me 90 to 104hours is maybe (.675%) of the U.S. population works this amount of hours by choice and please notice that is .675% not 67.5% big difference. Which shows her dedication..and when I asked for a side of wasabi just because I love it, she didnt question the action and said ok then told her waitress to get me some. But she did even more than that she personally asked me my favorite part about wasabi..I stated..I love the added flavor and the burn...she laughed and said oh it opens the sinuses too huh I laughed. Thank you for the great experience and the amazing food!! Anyone if you get the chance dont hesitate..try the Wok and Hibachi you will not be disappointed because the food is amazing and authentic. Truly food made with love of...
