There is a rumor going around that we are a nation divided. Now some may have differing opinions on that, which is fine by me. However, it seems that when a tragedy strikes, people from all walks of life come together to help ameliorate the suffering of the ones afflicted. Case in point. A local woman in Johnstown recently came down with COVID. She spent over a month in the hospital, and has rehabilitation to look forward to afterwards. The quality of medical care she received helped her overcome the virus, but that care came at a price. Enter Black Sheep Coffee and Crepes. In typical small town fashion, they held a fundraiser for her, and donated half of all proceeds of all sales to help her with her and her families financial strain. I will support any such endeavor, so decided to support the cause, and made the trip up to Johnstown. I can tell you that I was not disappointed. They had a variety of delectable edibles on the menu, and I settled for a Calzone. I was not expecting it to be quite as large as it was, but the flavor certainly matched its size, and I walked out feeling very full -- and satisfied. The staff was very courteous and friendly, the atmosphere somewhat quaint, and they even had a small play area for children. So, if you're ever up in Johnstown and would like to enjoy a really good meal in a comfortable atmosphere then the Black Sheep Coffee and Crepes on Main Street in Johnstown, is a place I highly...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe stopped in after tricker-treat-street for some lunch, ordered 3 sodas a juice box, a sandwich, a crepe and 2 slices of pizza. we got the sandwich and crepe within 10 minutes. After about another 30 minutes, I took the number to the counter to ask for a box and a refund for the 2 slices of pizza as we were ready to leave, I was refused a refund and was told they don't usually do refunds when the food is ready. I got a box and was about to write a nicer review when the owner came to scold me for leaving a 1 star review and proceeded to give me $5. I told her i wasn't concerned with the money and that we were leaving due to poor service. She told me she was swamped and that it was a family business pushing her child and family in my face to deter the review. She told me to take a breath and calm down while i was calmly talking and she was causing a scene over the situation. I left her money on the table and thought about the situation while we drove home.
I will say this, had I not been approached in such an insulting way I had considered not leaving any review, but the unprofessional and insulting way I was approached while trying to leave pushed me over the edge to leave a review. I under stand it was busy and small business's are hard this was the worst possible way this could be handled and pushed me away from ever trying this small...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI like this place a lot....MOSTLY. We come in often to have coffee, snacks, drinks and do some work. It's a welcoming space, staff is nice and coffee is great. HOWEVER, around 5pm, it turns into a version of Chuck E. Cheese's. I type this while sitting here now and can barely hear myself think. It's nice that they offer the wooden truck for the kids in the back of the restaurant, but unfortunately, every parent in Johnstown uses it as their kids' babysitter. Kids are screaming, shouting, jumping and yelling while others of us try to enjoy our coffee, pizza and beer. Parents have certainly become too lazy to control their own children, and the owners have no signage or rules asking them to do so. Because of the open space, it echoes worse than the play area at McDonald's (speaking of, there is a reason McDonald's separates the two areas). It's one thing to be family-friendly, but sure doesn't make it enjoyable for those of us trying to enjoy the coffee shop or adult beverage aspect of Black Sheep. We appreciate that they stay open later as it's one of the few coffee shops in the area to do so. However, if you want a calm, adult environment, come during the day until somehow some "child control" is implemented. Hope they can fix this as it truly is (most times) a nice place to spend time...
