Ordered takeout, since their website does not offer delivery, and my husband and I paid about $50 for an order of spring rolls, crab cheese wontons, sweet and sour pork, and broccoli shrimp. We waited 45 minutes with no notification telling us how the order was doing, even if they started it, and eventually drove to pick it up anyway at the hour mark. Found the place completely empty, the one girl at the counter slouched over with her hand and her palm bored out of her mind, and when I asked for our order found it ready to go immediately behind her. We were lucky it was still warm, although that didn't change the flavor and it had been sitting on the counter for a while. 3 hours later, the text notifications still haven't updated. The sweet and sour pork had the sauce separated so they looked exactly like chicken nuggets with a rare amount of vegetables (onion and cubed green pepper), and eating them was gross; I couldn't identify it was pork. My husband was also sorely disappointed by the shrimp as it was soggy, bland, and obviously frozen. It wouldn't surprise either of us have both meals were completely frozen beforehand. The fried rice tasted the same as the white rice too. The only decent part of the order for the crab cheese wontons, and while one piece could entirely fit into my mouth without issue it's hard to do a spoonful of cream cheese wrong. We can see why the place is dead in time for Sunday dinner, but having it be the only Chinese restaurant within a 30-minute Drive with no one else eating in is a terrible sign. The food was digestible and hasn't made us sick, we're keeping our...
Read moreTucked away in the strip mall that is located near the Hays Market in Johnstown is this gem of a find of Chinese restaurant. Huang Garden restaurant came highly recommended by our daughter. So, we decided to give it a try. And we weren't disappointed. The dishes we've tried there so far have been fantastic and delicious! They definitely don't skimp on the meat by throwing-in a bunch of vegetables to mask things. The portion sizes were quite generous. Everything we've had there so far have been fresh and oh so tasty! We liked it so much that we've now been there several times. I highly recommend their sesame chicken, sesame beef, orange chicken, orange beef and Mongolian beef. I am sure everything in their menu is great but above are the dishes we tried so far.
The above dishes, except for the Mongolian beef, were fried in very lightly coated batter and fried to absolute perfection! So there wasn't a thick layer of dough masking a thin sliver of meat (some restaurants use this trick to stretch their meat). The Mongolian beef was cooked just right to juicy perfection; seasoned to absolute perfection with just the right amount of sauce, onions and black pepper. Even the red dipping sauce they serve you with fried wonton strips before your meal comes was delicious. Instead of your sugary red-dye sauce, this had a pleasant yet slight hint of fresh ginger.
I highly recommend this...
Read moreHave ordered from here a handful of times over the years, and we absolutely love their incredible chicken vegetable soup as well as the savory jalepeno chicken egg rolls. The fried rice is pretty delectable as far as flavors go, too. Outside of that, the wontons have an overwhelmingly strong onion flavor with little filling, the lo mein noodles have an “okay” taste and texture, and the egg drop soup is decent. I don’t recommend venturing into the realm of traditional chicken entrees unless you want to order something that you have a 50/50 chance of liking. That said, I love their kind employees who always offer genuinely helpful customer service, and the quality of the foods that we did enjoy were on point. Definitely worth choosing this place for takeout sometime; I’d absolutely recommend (especially if you want to try the chicken veggie soup and jalepeno egg rolls - honestly it’s a...
