We saw the online ad and the menu looked very appealing. We ordered our food for takeout. I ordered turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes with gravy, and cranberry sauce. I received turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes out of the box, and green beans and corn, which looked and tasted as if they had been in a pot on the stove for a month. The whole meal was very, very salty and so inedible that the dogs were sick after eating a small bit of it. Due to the food’s saltiness I only gave the dogs a tiny bit, but that small amount made them vomit. I truly hope that this isn’t the best food that Johnstown has to offer. My husband ordered the garlic chicken wings, which had no garlic flavor. The veal Parmesan with spaghetti and meatballs (advertised as 2 meatballs), salad, and garlic bread. The garlic bread was not toasted and had no garlic on it. There was only one overcooked meatball with barely any sauce and no flavor. There wasThe salad was very ordinary with flavorless blue cheese dressing. The coconut cream pie had great looking meringue, however there was no coconut flavor in the filling and a sprinkling of real coconut on top of the meringue. They advertise home-cooked food, but our meal appeared to be institutional, as in reheated bad elementary school cafeteria food. It was overpriced. The bill was $33.00 including tip.
On the positive side: The servers were very pleasant and the food was there when we arrived...
Read moreI saw the gruff service other reviewers spoke of. Not sure what's up with that. Luckily the food shone bright and put my wife and I in a good mood. People seem to agree that the tone doesn't spoil the experience because the place was 80% full. The place is festooned with homey kitsch feel-good Americana. I dig that.
The home fries are soft potato disks, with some crisp portions. Largely unseasoned. You'll want to hit them with salt and pepper.
Coffee was good. No complaints. My wife said the scrapple was okay. But, you can't get scrapple very many places, so it's nice to see some variety in your menu like this.
The happy part I wrote this review for was the sausage and cheese omelette. Surprisingly generous portion of sausage wrapped inside. A hearty breakfast at a compelling price.
I used my rye toast to make a little sandwich with some of it. Can recommend.
I wish it weren't hours from my home. I'd stop back for sure. I'd definitely want to try their chicken someday. If I head up to Pittsburgh, maybe I'll see if Our Sons is a tolerable detour. My guess is they have more gold on their menu waiting...
Read moreOrdered meatloaf, mashed potatoes, coleslaw and hot wings for myself wasn't impressed at all with the meatloaf it was sweet like it had alot of sugar in it. The mashed potatoes were good as was the gravy but it taste like the brown gravy in a jar from Walmart. The coleslaw was just ground up cabbage and carrots and if there was mayo in it I couldn't tell at all. Now the wings they were very good . My girlfriend got the ham steak dinner it was trash the ham was square lunch meat ham and taste awful she didn't take more than 1 bite and trashed it. The corn she got was right outta a can over cooked no salt no butter nothing it was bitter and terrible. The salad was good but let's face it, it's hard to mess that up.. I will never get food from there again even though I like the wings very much the rest was trash just a waste of money ey I would rather have ordered from eat n park.. if this is a johnstown staple ehh better re-evaluate fast.. I read all the reviews and I am shocked by how terrible my experience was but go ahead judge...
