Lovely atmosphere but the sugar free peanut butter mocha drink I had didn't taste like peanut butter or chocolate so I asked if they could add some coco powder or peanut butter instead of remaking the drink but the manager/owner seemed a little argumentative and told me that there was no such thing as sugar free peanut butter (not what I asked for and also not true even if they didn't carry sugar free peanut butter in their inventory). After I clarified that I was okay with peanut butter with sugar, she reaffirmed there wasn't such a thing as sugar free peanut and I wasn't going to argue with her but the whole situation was really weird and she was waiting for a response so I just said something like, "oh... Well when I buy peanut butter I always get the kinda made with peanuts and salt but I know most have sugar. She finally mentioned that they had peanut powder and even though I said either option would be greatly appreciated, she refused to let the barista add any peanut powder or peanut butter in the new drink that they decided to make. All the ingredients in both drinks were the same; there was just more syrup.
I could have seen that maybe I had misinterpreted her acting like it was crazy that I mentioned that sugar free peanut butter existed but the same manager randomly told me about a "sugar free pure cane sugar syrup" they had and I tried to clarify if the "cane sugar" was just the flavor of the syrup and not the actual ingredients(how else can it be sugar free?) and she said "No, it's cane sugar," with the same attitude.
All that aside, I was very uncomfortable that she brought up the girl who made my original drink to tell her that I said the drink was bad(which I actually didn't say) and subject her to an inquisition of how she made the drink as if demanding answers. It didn't seem like a professional or kind way to treat staff. Once she was satisfied that the barista had followed the recipe, she started telling me that all the people in the area liked their coffee which is great but irrelevant to the fact that I was just asking for an extra pump of chocolate syrup or dollop of peanut butter.
It was an awkward interaction overall but I did bring the remade drink home and asked my family what they thought of the drink without telling them about the service and they said there was no flavor(even with twice the syrup) and were aghast that it cost $8...
Read moreNo espresso? What? Only espresso drinks(which is what I was told). You need an espresso shot( at a 2- 2.25 price point) for people who want a quick boost without all the extra over mixing of water, sugar, syrups, etc...
Keep the americano for people who don't know any better and for some odd reason like a watered down coffee bev. Or the gimmicky milkshakes made with a bit of coffee for the folks who for some odder reason have the desire to rush their soon to be diagnosis of diabetes.
THAT BEING SAID the place is cute, parking is plentiful, the staff is nice and it's a great addition to Jonesville. It's a short walk from the local theater for a beverage b4 your show, a great place to visit while you're doing laundry at the near by laundromat, and for bike enthusiast you can even shop for motorcycles next door!
I'm sure you'll have continued success but a tweak or two must be considered...
Good luck..
p.s. I'd like to make a private point if you'd consider giving me an email address. I couldn't seem to...
Read moreWe stopped here this past Saturday morning (16 Nov) to grab coffee and snacks as a starting point to do some area driving as we consider a move from where we currently live (near Raleigh).
The shop is very clean (including the restrooms!), the menus clearly laid out, and the staff as friendly as you could hope for. We took a chance on some coffee drinks we don't normally go for, afraid that they might be too sweet, but they were perfect! We also tried a few pastries which we found out are locally produced and they were amazing, too.
I could write ten times as much about how much we enjoyed our visit with the owners and their staff, but all I really need to say is that if you're ever in that area and have an urge to get some great coffee (roasted in Wilkesboro) brought to you by some of the nicest people you'd ever want to meet, in a comfortable, well-designed space, you'd be hard-pressed to find somewhere better than River Roast Coffee! We will...
