Forest + Field Bakery — Restaurant in Joplin

This has always been one of my favorite places to visit, and I frequently recommend it to others. However, during my most recent visit, I had an uncomfortable experience. I overheard the owner and her friends discussing how customers arrive early, which they found frustrating. I understand that the business model relies on customers lining up early since the place is only open once a week, but I do find it concerning when there are complaints about people arriving early. In the past, I've heard customers mention that they drive an hour to buy baked goods, and it saddens me to hear negative remarks instead of gratitude. I overheard this conversation in the dining area at 11 a.m. & there was also frustration about how people line up. If there’s an issue with the way customers are lining up, perhaps a clear sign could help guide them. It would be wonderful to see the focus remain on the positive aspects of this special place.

While I personally don’t always arrive at opening time, I do believe it’s important to maintain a respectful and private conversation about customers. It just didn’t feel right to hear such remarks openly. I hope this feedback is taken constructively, as I truly enjoy this place and want to continue...

This is a little haven in Joplin. It's difficult to find classic French bakeries in most metropolitan areas, let alone this smaller town. They bake all sorts of excellent breads, croissants, tarts, and pastries.Their classic croissants are the best you'll find in the U.S. and their sourdough boules are incredible. While they do make plenty of excellent sweet treats like morning buns, lemon cakes, and various fruit tarts, my favorite items are their savory takes on baked goods. Goat cheese and zucchini danish! Orange and olive oil muffins! Sausage rolls! Chocolate chile croissants! They have their staple items that are available every Saturday and Monday, but also change some of their items every season to keep things interesting and fresh. I just saw a post on Instagram about this account getting negative reviews because they aren’t open every day. Can I please ask those that are frustrated with a businesses opening times to take a moment to think ❤️

Running a small family business is very challenging, sometimes it’s only you, you don’t have other staff to call on and when things happen in life you have to close the doors.

Please show compassion and respect, running a small family business is it extremely challenging, especially now.
