When we first arrived, we expected quite the welcoming, down to earth, local embrace that would be expected from a local bar. That was quickly shattered by the unfortunate customer service that tainted the rest of the inadequate service.
When asking what beers were on tap, our sour server faced away from us, didn't make eye contact and made it feel like we were a burdened chore to check what was available. After about 3 walk-aways in an impatient scurry were we finally able to place our drink orders. We were frequently met with passive-aggressive comments such as, "Use your words", and "Oh, I'm just so sorry you're upset about that".
After many rolled-eyes from our "server" and unfortunate customer service interactions we decided, to our great misfortune to order food. We tried the "Clam Strip" $8.50 appetizer, which had about 5 actual strips of clam meat, and more pellet-sized shrapnel than a civil-war casualty. The appetizer took more time to come out than would be expected to deep-fry some small seafood. To be fair, the place was busy.
The complications with the food (no actual clam strips) could have easily been rectified (we were not looking for free food. We just wanted to communicate the poor quality of the food). However when our waitress was confronted with issues our waitress continued to be confrontational and passive-aggressive. We asked to see the owner we were told that the owner of the restaurant -although currently working, would not be available to talk to us as they were just so darn busy! I would have believed this if it wasn't for her previous attitude. She was obviously not wanting us to talk to the owner knowing we would call her our on her bad attitude and horrible service .
The food could use improvement: Yes. The real issue is with the golden rule: Treat others as you wish to be treated. I have never in my life been treated or would treat another human being the way I was treated at this establishment. I sincerely hope for their business' sake that their core group of regulars is enough to keep them afloat, as I will never return or recommend to anyone else to give this business an iota of currency or respect.
Be polite, be respectful, and listen. I sincerely question the judgment of the owner for allowing such inconsiderate, rude, haughty, self-centered wait staff to work there. To the owner directly: this woman is toxic to your business .You need to do your business and more importantly, your customers a favor and train her or fire her. We had planned on staying, tipping large, and buying food: however, left specifically because of the paltry customer service.
Your business lost money because of your wait-staff.
DO NOT RECOMMEND. AVOID...
Read moreTrish was snobby at first. Made my friend feel especially uncomfortable. I read the reviews and they were mixed with the waitstaff. I had a groupon and I wasn't going to let the possibility of a moody waitress get the best of me. I don't take disrespect from anyone.. especially if I am a paying customer. We weren't welcomed, no smile, no intro... we were obviously bothering her, at least she made us feel that way at first. We needed to sit at the lower round table bc of my bad back and we wanted to have so privacy and room to eat. Then I decided to add a second crabcake to my order, she was combative saying I couldn't take it to go bc I had a groupon. I was really annoyed at that point, my mom couldn't make it bc she works her but off as a nurse and worked late and I can't bring her a crabcake? Groupon or not, my friend and I also ordered 20 wings, half of which we planned to take home. Eventually after banter back and forth she said she is just gonna do it bc she "doesn't feel like dealing with it." What??? The rudest ever! I remained calm and said thanks, asked her for her name and went back to my table. Anyway, after she had a couple of shots with the regulars at the bar and calmed down a few of the guys that were arguing and trying to fight each other she became more pleasant. She apologized for the drama. and was pleasant from then on. I wish she was like that from the beginning bc I would have given 4 stars instead of 3. It almost deserved a 2 & If she would have remained snotty I would have just taken everything to go or just left without any food and it would be 1 star. Don't go there to eat too late as to avoid the drunken bar crowd. Otherwise, you can enjoy great wings, go for the old bay ones. Crabcakes are good, 99% crab but not much flavor. A little more old bay would go a long way.. I like my mom's Jumbo lump cakes better personally. If they want more repeat business from locals then there needs to be better customer service. Make the customers feel welcome and not a burden. I am glad my mom didn't have to go through that, after all, she works hard as a nurse and works long hours dealing with difficult people enough. If we go back I hope it's a positive experience from the...
Read moreIt has been a couple years since I was here at Kirby's Sports Grille. And it's actually better than I remember. They have done a remodel and opened up the space so you don't feel like you're sitting on top of each other. There are a number of large screen TVs if care to watch sports.
It being National Cheeseburger Day, we decided to go here because they serve one of the best burgers around. They are half pound hamburgers with your choice of cheese served on a brioche roll and come with one side. While many restaurants had burger deals today, Kirby's has an extended special where all burgers are $10. Plus I was able to use my Local Dines coupon on top of that.
Many thanks to our server, Stephanie, who was extremely gracious and accommodating. I was able to add guacamole to my burger even though that's not a configuration on the menu. She checked back with us frequently to make sure, everything was to our satisfaction. Also, she was happy to answer our various questions.
I almost forgot to add the most important thing: the meal was fabulous. One of the best burgers I've had in a long time. The french fries was just right as were the sweet potato fries. The dessert was an m&m chocolate brownie sundae that was put together perfectly with brownie fingers and french vanilla ice cream at the right consistency, lots of whipped cream and two spoons.
We will definitely make this a regular dining venue. Plus, if you get a late night craving, the kitchen is open until 10:00 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11:00 on Friday...
