Chicago Munchies Fried & Grilled — Restaurant in Kalamazoo

Initial Thoughts: the name is misleading. When I read "Chicago Munchies" I was thinking more of iconic foods like Chicago Style Dogs or Pizza and stuff along those lines. Instead, this is a fish and chips, fried food type joint.

Cleanliness: Besides the occasional homeless person outside the front entrance the tables, floor, and bathrooms were clean. No complaints.

Food: I ordered the 2pc Catfish Filet and 3pc Perch. This came with fries, bread, and coleslaw (although I never got the slaw). The best thing about this place is everything is cooked to order. So, the wait time was about 30+ mins or so but the food was exceptionally hot. Ideally, you wouldn't eat there but by the time you get home your food would be the ideal temperature. The batter and breading on this fish was very tasty. Also, the cuts of fish were thick, white, and flaky. Very impressed by the portion to price ratio.

Final Thoughts: Overall, I gave this review four-stars because the name of the restaurant was misleading, the wait time was much longer than expected (although I understand that is the trade off between freshly made and already made). So, in the future I would call ahead to order. I usually wait a few days before reviewing a restaurant to allow the food to go through me and see how I feel the next day. With that being said the next day was fine and the food did not upset my stomach or cause any unwanted bathroom trips. The food is mouth watering good. I've been here a few times and so far have had the double cheeseburger, Italian beef sandwich, beef polish, fried shrimp and cheese fries and they all have tasted amazing. I've heard the Philly cheese steak, gyros cheeseburger and chicken wings are also really good. The prices are affordable also. Especially the lunch specials before 3pm are all $6.99 and there's a lot to choose from. Everything comes with fries and a drink for no extra charge, and you can upgrade your fries to cheese fries for 50 cents. The only complaint is it can take a little long to get your food sometimes, 15 mins or more, but in their defense there are only 1-2 guys in the kitchen and they make the food fresh. You can call ahead, but sometimes need to call 2-3 times before they answer cause they get busy.
